Earning A Living By Spreading Gossip

Why do people like gossip? It is because just like charity, it starts from the home ? I came from a family where we were not allowed even to watch gossip shows of movie and television personalities because my dad strongly discouraged it. He also did not like us even looking at our windows if there were fights, worst even family feuds openly displayed in our neighborhood. I know there are people who earn a living by looking and spreading fresh gossips. Wether they were told partially true or not, what is your opinion on this ?

I don't think that's a good way of having a livelihood; I wouldn't be able to stomach to feed my kids with something I got from spreading malicious stories and "lies" that would be hurting other people. I never want any false representations to be done to me, so I don't think it would be right for me to do so and even earn some money at the expense of someone else's honor. I think it's just plain wrong, especially if those who spread the gossip are well aware that it's not even true.
