It happened yesterday while I was riding a public transport. From a distance I saw this boy carrying a sack fall to the ground. He just fell to the ground eyes closed. He is obviously one who scavenges for stuffs like used plastic bottles, cans, discarded metals, etc. in people's garbage which he sells at junk shops. He looked very dirty and the driver commented that the guy must be someone insane. I said he didn't look insane for why would he be scavenging for a living if he were out of his mind. The scavenger must have collapsed from hunger. He as already close to the junk shop but he did not make it. I felt so bad about it, why some people have to be like that. I wish all these people who have lots of money will start doing something good to people who need help. I also feel guilty for not having done anything.

Aww. If I were in your situation, I don't know what I would do either. Even thought I want to help him, I don't think I would be able to do something.

It is hard when you are actually in the situation. It is so much easier to say "be kind to others" but doing it is something else.

I too have had one such experience a couple of years back.I saw a woman begging on road.Like the boy she too looked hungry. It was a hot summer noon.I saw her requesting a man who ignored her and proceeded ahead. The woman tried to go to another man who was standing at the bus stop a little further. She was trying hard to walk. While proceeding to the man,she fell on the road. She collapsed and the next second the whole traffic on the road came to a halt to save her from being run over by any four wheeler. All this happened within minutes.I rushed to her, opened my flask and sprinkled water on her face. She opened her eyes.I turned back, rushed to a shop nearby, bought a bread and gave it to her.She somehow stood up on her trembling feet, tumbled to the roadside and ate up the whole bread there.I was unable to do anything for her beyond this as I did not have money.

Thanks.I know what it means to be hungry due to poverty. We had undergone the pain caused by lack of money and consequent difficulties. My parents taught me to be kind and sensitive to the poor.

It is really heart breaking to see that especially to a boy that should be in school instead of making a way to live and survive life. We really help other people even in simple ways we can without expecting anything in return.

I wish we can really start that kind of spirit NOW.

That's just a heart wrenching thing to see. As much as we want to help them, we can only do a little for them, and even if we want to, we cannot help every kid who has to work that way for a living. Not when their very own parents lets it happen. Maybe we can report to the authorities about the incident, though I'm not sure what good can it do. At least maybe they will try to have the kid reunited to his folks and not be left out there.

That's terrible, I've seen some pretty gruesome stuff myself and that's about along the lines of what it's like. I was surprised that I didn't do more, I've always thought that I'd take actions in those kinds of situations but they're just sooo shocking.

Somehow much of the time what we think does not translate into action and that's too bad.

Well, it really make my heart heavy to see little children being forced to carry big burdens. I am sure though that there are many rich people as well who contributes for their well being. Now it is up for the little children and their guardian to participate. There are many activities that promotes well being of poor people but sadly, their cruel guardians keep them from attending it so i guess, if we see something cruel that can affect a child's growth, let's just report it to the police. :D

There's a lot of cruelty going on in our society nowadays. Cruelty to animals is also another thing that really makes me sad everyday and I see that happening in my neighborhood.
