Philippine Flood - Flooding situation in the Philippines after 2 weeks of heavy rain
Singapore
August 7, 2012 3:10am CST
Hi Guys, Hope you are all well! There had been pouring rain for the past 2 weeks now all over the Philippines. I just learned today that my kuya (eldest brother) had to cruise through the flood with his 7 yr old son on his back to get out of their house that is already submerged in flood water. Share your experiences, and your prayers here.

Hi friend, I hope your brother and your nephew are okay... my daughter is sick because of the bad weather, good thing classes are suspended since yesterday or she'll have another "absent" in her attendance record.. Still raining so hard here in Quezon City and I'm very anxious that a brownout may occur anytime, then it will be doubly hard for everyone in the house . The cable is beginning to show signal difficulties, I can't believe my internet connection is still working well up to now.

It's nice for us who work at home to have functional internet connection despite of having a natural calamity. Without it, our livelihood will be jeopardized.

Myklops I agree but I read at one time Meralco shut off power supply for safety reasons. I hope everybody's ok now! (thought I also heard there's another storm coming) My prayers are for everybody!

Hi, I am from Pasig City, boundary of Marikina and Cainta. I am surrounded by flooded areas. I'm fortunate to live in a four-storey house. I got a distant relative who lives in Tumana Marikina and he texted last August 7 that he is in the roof of their 2 storey house and is waiting for rescuers. I tried to contact him Aug 8 but it seemed his battery got emptied. My family just prayed that he was rescued. We did received a text message from him last night that they are back home cleaning the house and will do a lot of their laundry. Despite the hard hit of this habagat, we are still thankful that we are still complete to fight the hard times in life. :) God Bless Philippines!

The flooded car - The flood in the metro resulted into this kind of problem and a lot more.
I am glad they we are able to pass through the flood safely. Many people were unable. They were unable and got drowned. How sad for them. Even an expert swimmer can be drowned by that very strong current of flood in some places of the Metro. We are blessed we don't experience such horrible experience. Let's pray for them who are still suffering because of this terrible flood.

That's true, nobody is an expert when you are against flooding and strong current. imagine swimming under dark waters, not to mention the dirt and the bacteria.

I lived in the South of Manila and is working in the Manila area. I'm one of the few people who was spared by this calamity that struck our country. For start,, our house is located in a high grounds, so there is no flooding in our place despite the continuous pouring of heavy rains for several days now. I can still go to work since SLEX is now fixed and the flooding near the Alaska area is no longer a treat. But most of my co-workers is not as lucky as I am. Many of them (living inside Manila) had their homes abandon since the flood already consumes most of their houses. I can only pray for them and hoping that a small amount of money I donated would go a long way to help our countrymen. Again, this is the time to bring our our "bayanihan" system for the sake of those who are in peril.

our place does not have any flooding yet. We hope that no flood will come or else I will not be able to work at home. No internet connection means no work and no work means no money. No money means no extra bucks to donate.

I agree with you, in my place, we can only get a 1mbps plan, no higher than that, so imagine what I can get during peak hours, plus it is damn too slow when it rains heavily, I rely on my computer and internet connection for a living, so I pray hard not to loose those. Plus typhoon and flooding results to major power outage in our area that sometimes took weeks, that's a big NO, NO for us. :(

I live in a city in Laguna, about 2 hours away from Manila. Our area is on higher grounds, overlooking the Mt. Makiling and Laguna Bay. We do have some ankle-length flooded streets but thank God it was not any worse. My parents live in QC area in Manila; while their house was not flooded inside, their street outside is already knee deep so there's a no-go for them. Be safe everyone, prayers for all.

Our place is in Laguna too! and some parts are flooded some were ok. Its hard to tell which places because if your house is not flooded the blocks away from your house is flooded :)

We are so blessed that our house is built quite higher than the ground. Our place experienced flooding and it almost reached our floor but the rain stopped, thank God! I feel sorry for our neighbors because some of their appliances were damaged and their houses are full of mud. Some people blame it on our government but I think the government alone cannot solve this problem. We should also do our part. We can do little things like throwing garbage in proper places or cleaning our drainage system. If everybody does his part, there is no reason why we can't solve this problem.

I hate flood. The location of our house in my hometown isn't good. We sometimes experience flood. I guess the last one was in the year 2010. I wasn't there. My husband didn't tell me that they were experiencing flood already. I heard about it the next morning. I hope it won't happen again. People's lives are at risk. Now, many people are in the evacuation center for sure. I hope they will leave there houses before the water gets high. It's too dangerous to cross the water if it is already above the waist or chest level. Let's pray for all the flood victims. I hope they'll get help from the authorities, etc.

Where are you from? I leave in the northern parts of Luzon, Benguet Province. I am an Igorot and the hazards being in the mountainous parts are landslide and flush floods. I have experienced flood, decades back while at La Salle along Taft Avenue in the 70's.Of course flooding in Baguio occurs too when water exit ports get clogged just like the water lagoon or City Camp where.

I felt sad during this time because I am just at home and not that affected at all. I am really thankful that our place is really high. I just look at the updates on Twitter in order to be aware of the latest happenings. And upon seeing the photos taken from different places, I felt sad knowing that there's nothing that I can do to help other people. Thanks to social media most especially Twitter because it really helped us in connecting with other people.

As seen on television its really awful being in that situation, I'm just lucky because I had no experience being stuck in the flood. Let's all learn how to discipline ourselves to avoid such catastrophe.

Flooding has been so rampant in the Philippines lately. I strongly believe that this catastrophes are caused by global warming and we should be very vigilant about it.

I thank God that we had no experience of flood here on our place (Imus). But I want to extend my prayers for our fellow Filipinos who encountered floods. I am hoping that heavy rains or thunder storm will not land here on Philippines.

Flooding in the Philippines is also a human fault because of our pollution. If people of the Philippines learn how to dispose their garbage properly flood will not be a main problem in Philippines.

That was a sad story there. I had mine too. I think you heard it over the news some years ago. It was a 2006 typhoon named Reming. It hit bicol region and killed thousand of people in the place. But I still consider my place very fortunate because the typhoon hits our region in the morning not at night. I think if it happened at night, the numbers of deaths will be tripled specially to the ones who are residing near Mt. Mayon. Some were killed because of flash flood. I also never imagined that our house will be on flood, it almost reached our second floor. The first floor was on flood that it damaged all the appliances that weren't been saved. I also saw my neighbors at the back swimming across the flood just to saved themselves because their area was too low. They had to abandon their house for their own safety then. That was a very sad experience that we wished not to happen anymore. If only I have magic powers, I think I would fix the things that was been ruined by abusive people. My prayer is not only for me but also for the benefit of others. But if I will keep on praying and still a lot of people are abusing the mother Earth, I think it's the best thing to save myself first then. I will still keep on praying that this Earth will still last for a very long time. This is one of the greatest thing that we got, I think it is deserved to be treated well. :) Always pray guys. :)

Though I'm not from Manila, I had also experienced flooding. We went through it last year here in our hometown Davao. It was our first time to be flooded and fortunately it was only ankle deep. I hope it won't happen again because it's very difficult to clean the mud that went inside our house. Electricity was also out for a week so we had to use candles at night. I was thankful to God that we didn't have any major damages.

just pray for them and just prepare ourselves for that, we dont know what will happen to us the next day, next year so just pray that the only weapon we can do for that.. and we need to discipline ourselves sometimes cause of flooding is our garbage.

Floods in our country are everywhere specially this rainy season. In our city until now, even a 15minutes heavy rain can cause floods. It is just now that we are experiencing this. This is due to those new buildings. They have cut so many trees also the drainage system is not that good.
