Would you render OT if...

GREAT, I'm rendering overtime voluntarily for the first time. I've been working for 8 months in this company and I never volunteered to render OT... Until the Operations Manager ask me to do so. We are lacking people due to the calamity that the monsoon rains delivered in our country and of all 10,000 agents we only have 200 less peeps on the production floor. For short, they definitely need manpower. This is gruesome. To think that 1) I can easily evade my supervisor when I don't want to, 2) I can't just do it at this point in which my body is not in a good condition to make an all-out effort in doing so and 3) I would rather go home early if I know that this is the last day of the working week, I would love to see mt people at home, family and friends as this is the only time/ day of the week to see them: rest days. How would you think about this? Would you render overtime at this point? let me know what's on your mind. Thanks and happy mylotting.

That's nice. Working overtime is not only earning extra money but earning your superior's appreciation. You might even be capable to "mulot" at the same time. hehehe

Yup, I agree with you :) I would like to share this (dunno if I call it a good) moment to share my experience of rendering OT while everyone's at either their comforts of their home or struggling their lives and property over their flooded area. But as of what I am seeing things here in the office, it is one heck of a ghost town indeed, no agents, no operations, nothing. pretty scary though, only you and the big boss. hahaha. Happy mylotting :D

If I'm getting paid for the OT, yes. It's money, and we can always use more.

Exactly! This is best for those who truly need it. LOLZ, work hard and pay even better. It is better to look at your payslip with all those add-ons and stuff, hope to get my payslip soon. LOL. We don't have any automated payslips but we do have accurate ones so far :) This is for the benefit of those who badly need money at times, best tip: render OT at work and if it pays off, it really pays a lot. Happy mylotting :D

I think i will, you see this is a plus point for you, your boss will know that you are a person they can rely on in times of need. Your family and friends will understand not having you around only for this time being. You still have lots of chances to bond with them in the future.

No. I can render overtime if I am feeling healthy and energized. There's no effort in rendering overtime if you're body is not in good condition. Like now, it is raining pretty hard. We should go home early so we won't get stranded in the flood.

The reason why I like working overtime is because it pays more per hour than my regular work. However, I understand what you are saying when you are exhausted by the end of your regular shift. What I try to do is either take my break later in the day or ask my supervisor if I can split my break into two halves and have one half early in the day and another half later in the day. Even though you are technically on break for the same amount of time, spreading it out throughout the day helps you feel the impact of putting your work on hold and focusing on yourself whether it be for a half hour, hour, etc. The other advantage I see in working overtime is that if I have an upcoming obligation and will miss hours because of it, I can make up those hours in advance working overtime another week.

That doesn't sound like a voluntary OT, but more of like a forced overtime Anyway, I have done some voluntary overtime in the past, and it is for the good of the whole team. I was in Finance and of course collections, deposits and sales cannot be halted even after a tragic event back then. Of course it was paid for by the company and we were also given a rest day after that.
