Hi everyone Its been really long time since i've posted or started a discussion here in mylot, so its feels really good to be back. well, i have been quiet busy with my academics so i wasn't actively involved in writing and feel that i have lagging behind, anyways i was checking out some of online writing course offered by some university. Has anyone tried one of those program? I think it is free so i am thinking of joining one of the program. I also like to know if they are effective in improving your skills. Thanks

Hi salma07,are you talking about the website Coursera.org? If you haven't heard about it, this is a website where you can enroll in online courses of your choice for free. You can also learn at your own pace too! Their university partners include Princeton University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Michigan, Duke University and many others. You can choose from their 117 courses. This is the website https://www.coursera.org/ enjoy!

@barbiesacol: Does the coursea give any or all courses for free? I have been searching for such places where I could learn and read... you know, I am ill and without any regular job since 2008 - so that is surely going to help... thanks for the name and the link.

Yes, I've visited their site and I know that all of it are free. You can be one of their scholars. I've viewed some but not all of their courses. I hope that you can find one that will fit you. Good luck!

Hi salma I am unsure if I know any such place. But definitely I am looking for some similar places where I could learn for free... preferably online so that I could do the study from the home - as I am not allowed to go out. I am from India and love to read and learn. Thanks for starting such a discussion and I would keep visiting - I expect some good and useful responses for me too

Hi thesids, I wanted to join these course because even though i have passion for writing i guess i am technically not sound thus i fail a lot i am a student but sometimes i do need to express my thoughts to the world outside plus of course get some pocket in the process. But lately things are not going well, its like my fire has be extinguished with my first "salary" (yep, i didnt make it once but that is all, i think it was beginners' luck). Of course, i do like to learn in coursea they offer amazing advanced science courses that are very useful in real life. Apart from coursea there is ocw.edu which has sponsored by MIT and also i recently found few websites that offer online writing course, here some link freelancefolder.com (just search for amazing free online writing courses over there,if u dont get it ping me i send u the link via pm) and also education-portal.com (search for universities offering writing courses online) The most important thing with online course is that no one is monitoring you and you are in-charge of your coursework.. i wish i could start a online study group or chat group with native English speaker so that i can improve a lot with it.
