I sometimes wonder what society would be like without a tv set. Television gives us an insight into what is happening in the world today via the news. but is that a good thing? News is nearly always bad news, filled with war and death, very negative. But tv also allows us to watch programmes filled with human strength and positive actions that result in making us feel good. and then we switch over to a movie that is filled with violence and destruction. So does tv have a good or bad effect on how we see the world? What do you think todays world would be like if tv did not exist?

I don't watch the news or read the papers, never have never will. I am a sucker for my movies though TV has always been in my life since I was a kid but as a kid I did not watch so much of it as I was always out with my friends up to some misadventure! If TV did not exsist these days it would make no differnece. We have mobilbe phones. "all phones are evil", game consoles and the internet. If we had no TV at least it keep the kids off the street lol. Then we have the internetAt least on that I can read what I want to believe lol

I think tv has both a negative and a positive effect on society. I just use the tv to relax at times when I am stressed out. I try not to watch too much tv so I don't become a couch potato. I guess without tv, I would do other stuff like chores or reading a book or spend more time with my family. I know there is a lot of violent shows on tv. So it is your choice and decision of what you want to watch on tv.

I believe that each new development in the technology age takes us further on our way. i believe that the world would be very much different without the invention of the television set. Would television had not invaded radio would we still be listeners instead of watcher and without television how far behind would the internet realy be?

Hi ajk here is how i see the tv - It is responsible for almost 90% of quarrels in the house - sometimes it is - who gets the remote, other times it is who gets to wtach his/her fav programe and at other times it is who owns the tv... Needless to say at the end who wins... and I guess unless you have more than a couple of tv sets at home, it is difficult to keep all at peace... Now the after effects of these "fights and quarrels" are sometimes drastic and irreversible... luckily we dont have any tv set at out place and there are two at my dad's... I confine my response to my family and dad's as to me they are more than the society

Your right television help us a lot to have access to whats going on around us specially to other country. It makes us aware and be prepared if theres something going on. Though we manage to live without tv before though we only use radio in our province when i was still a child though right now with computer and internet its alright for me if without television coz i can still have access to news and other things online though more expensive coz i need to pay monthly internet service unlike television.

Like with the rest of the technological gadgets, tv has its pros and cons. There are good and bad effects. It all depends on the user. TV is a tool that could destroy our children's innocence, and so is the computer. That's why parental guidance is advised for some tv programs. I can't imagine a world without tv, since it has not only served as a recreational activity for the whole family but it has also been educational. So i can't really imagine how backward life if tv didn't exist.

"Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles is th - "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles is the truth 30 years ago.
TV has played an important part in our life by providing us entertainment and information. Most of us have grown up with having a TV set at home so watching TV has been something that we almost take for granted. Whether the entertainment and the information provided is good or bad, it is for an individual to decide as we all have different taste and standard. But if we were to be without TV a few years ago, We had to learn how to fill those TV times with other activities. But we are now on the verge of having the internet replacing the dear old TV as the primary source of our entertainment and information needs. Remember the song, "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles? It is "Internet killed the TV" now.

TV is fine in small amounts. If you have an addiction to it like I have witnessed it isn't so good. There is a point where you have to draw the line. If you have a need to watch it daily for at least 4++ hours then there's got to be something wrong. I know there are positive and negative things on it, and the person I'm mainly talking about with it on so much watches alot of negative stuff, but some positive too. Some of it is plain outright boring. That is his main form of entertainment. I'd rather be out and having fun somewhere, personally. I mean who watches TV for 2 hours every single night? Plus more before then at various hours. Such a mundane boring life. I think if we all had a few days a week where we wouldn't watch any TV it would be a better world.

I totally agree. so many people put on weight due to the fact it is easier to watch telly all day than go out and exercise and get fresh air. So sad

TV is playing an important role in our day to day life. It is really hard to imagine our life without TV, since most of us watch TV to get fun and entertainment. A lot of Television addicts are also available in this world and they are spending most of their times in watching TV. TV is the best way to get the recent news and information, as well as we have lot of entertainment shows in TV. News contains both positive and negative things, whatever it is, we gain a lot of information from TV. Movie industry is mainly depend up on the TV, we get more information about the recent movies and their songs, details and reviews from TV, also some TV shows invite the movie stars and conduct various programs with them. With this kind of programs we come to know more details about our favorite film starts. Different kind of channels are available in TV and we can enjoy various programs like sports, cartoon, Fashion shows, educational information, animal stories and various things using various channels. Surely TV is a great window in our society which helps us to know more information about the world events as well as give more entertainment to us which make us to forget about our tension and worries and get relaxation and refreshment.

I think that television has presented both good and bad effects. On one hand there are inspirational programs and such but on the other, television promotes stereotypes and controls what we actually see and learn about other places and cultures. I think that TV has also been used to help program the people in society from the time they were old enough to watch it. It has changed the way we learn, communicate, see ourselves and teach. It has had an impact on tradition and public interaction too. What people used to come out of the house to experience, they can witness at home. Example..religion, classes, fundraising. I am not sure what we would be like without it, but I know we would be very different.

I think you correctly mentioned the fact that TV "news" has its major component related to tragedies and crimes and it has less to do with some good news. Though occasionally they do come. One way of looking this is that perhaps this id what happening in this cruel world today. Or another would be that only this part of world is being highlighted. Either of the reasons are points of concern. There are less of comedy shows or something which would cheer people. But anyways tv has become what we can call as something integral part of our routine and we may certainly not see it in the near future of it getting extinct.
