Why are we so afraid of death?

Death is the only thing that i can not resist, that we can not fight. Life is itself a battle lost before the death. A battle that still lead, and how much bitterness. Strength that people exhibit in the face of death seems incredible. But when you lose battle after battle, a life imprisoned by an unjust battle with a disease ,such as, death comes as a relief? Or however it comes, either way, it's only a terrible defeat? Why are we so afraid of death? We do not know what is behind it, or because all I end which could charge?
