Police Officers who Let Their "Power" go to their Heads.

Before I start here, I want to stress that I am not by any means saying that all police officers let their power get to their heads, but I am saying that in my experience most of them are like this. I realize that their job is tough, which makes me wonder if this contributes to the cockyness. What is your take on this? Also, where you live how do you find the personality of most police officers? Thanks for commenting.

Perfect example of this is my boyfriend's dad, who is a complete jerk. Maybe police officers just feel like they're in so much control of everything and basically above the law that they just let it go to their heads. Or maybe some of them are so used to being in "the zone" while they're at work that they just bring that police officer mentality home with them. I have noticed that many cops can be cocky and some are jerks, but I do know a few who are some of the nicest people in world when they're off-duty. I guess it just depends on their own personality.

Good question Jshean20. I've been noticing that a lot on the internet and some friends that have encountered issues with police. In my opinion, I think some of them are on a power trip. They think that they are the law and whatever they say goes. They also use excessive force on people too. A lot I suppose depends on how many tickets they have to give out...Meeting their quota. Sometimes the crimes that need to be investigated on aren't and minor ones are.

I really have not had any problems with them, but then again, I never did anything wrong that they would be mean. They have only helped me whenever I have called and none seemed to be cocky or nasty. I would imagine, they have to be somewhat overpowering in certain conditions to just plain stay alive. They never know where the next bullet is going to come from.

I have met some that are like that , I would see them walking around taking people things from the market , and forcing taxi drivers in my country to pay them to not get a ticket . I think most police will unite if you go against one so I think that is also a thing that contribute to their cockiness.

When I was not yet working with the government, I also though of them as cocky or whatever you may call it. But when I already entered the government service several years ago, there is also a change in the way I look at things. They believe they are under our department and they are under us. So every time they would see me, especially if I am in uniform, they would bow their heads as a sign of respect. I always explain to them, especially those whom I know personally that we are all workers of the government and we are responsible to the public and they are not under me. I also believe that there is already a great change on how our policemen behave nowadays. The people are well informed of their rights.
