So recently, I have looked into getting certified to be a closed caption transcriber. I did a little bit of research today and these people make excellent money and it doesn't cost that much time or money to get certified, but one of the qualifications is that you type 200 words per minute! 200!!! I didn't think that was at all possible. So I looked on youtube and there are people on there taking videos of themselves typing 200+ wpm. How does one even get that fast? I thought that I typed fast at 70 wpm! Holy cow.....and I've always worked somewhere where I've had to type at a decent speed and do a lot of it. I spend most of my time at home on the computer. How much practice would one actually need to type that fast? I'm still in awe!!!

The last time I did one of those WPM tests it was around 75 or 80 wpm. I alo go back and correct as I go instead of proofreading after, but still I do about 75 to 80 wpm. I don't know that I could ever do 200 wpm, but maybe the keyboard that closed captionist use are a lot easier to type with and thus much faster? I don't know.
I've never heard of a closed caption transcriber but I know someone has to do it, it sounds like it'd be interesting but would you have to relocate?

I don't know if you would or not. I was just browsing the internet and stumbled across it and some of the companies that use them. And in the qualifications section it said you should type 200+ wpm. The transcribers use a stenograph but the people in the youtube videos were on their regular home computers, just typing on type test websites and with accuracy in the 90s! I don't know if I could ever get that good. I "fat finger" the keys too, so I hit the back button constantly! Lol

Regarding
I just checked and found the fastest racer: /index.php?do=user.details&user_id=406
The best speed is 146 wpm.
Wikipedia says that the World record for alphabetical keyboard is 216 wpm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Words_per_minute
So, it is possible :)

200 words per minute! man, this is really CRAZY!
I never knew people would have such an ability. if it was 100, i can say, it's still quite normal. but then, 200? really insane!
I am never a fast typer you know. i guess i would be lucky to have 40 wpm.
typing fast is not my nature. guess it depends on my mood as well. plus, i never got the chance to study more on typing. i guess that's a plus.
But if i am here in mylot, as long as i know what will i type, i do it as fast as i can.
I just am clueless how many words i can type whenever i have lots of words coming into my mind.

Yup some people are just too fast and its look really impossible but i guess they have practice a lot ... Really a lot to achieve that.

Yes, 200 WPM seems absolutely impossible!!! I wonder how much practice you need to get this result. Or just it is a born talent? I practiced using typing games and races, like here:
http://keyboard-racing.com
but I cannot make it better than 80 WPM. It must be a talent or some secret technique, for sure!

200wpm? That was so fast, how long does their keyboard last before becomes broken? Just kidding. Maybe you just have to practice. I also get the same rate as yours but it tends to be i have less accuracy when im typing vey fast.
