Flourless Chocolate Cake

August 26, 2012 10:50pm CST
I have always loved baking more than cooking. Just recently i have tried baking this flourless chocolate cake wherein the main ingredients are just dark chocolate, eggs, butter and sugar. The cake turned out so densed. But i'd like to believe it's a guilt-free cake being flourless. I wonder if it is possible to bake flourless chocolate cake using egg whites alone and not whole eggs to cut back on calories and fat..Can you share your recipes with me if you have one? Appreciate it much, thanks in advance! :)

If you use eggwhites alone, you will end up making a meringue instead of a cake. Aside from doing flourless cakes, You can use those non-wheat, non gluten and non soy flours that can be used for baking. I also remember a delicious chocolate cake that uses ground hazelnut instead of flour. It has a delicious ganache frosting and its damn delicious. another option would be a raw vegan chocolate cake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7r4CNuj-o8 there are also some white sugar alternatives you can use that have less calories.

Chocolate cake - Flour is a major ingredient of cake.
A cake will always be unhealthy because it is sweet and has lots of calories and fats. But a cake without a flour will never be perfect because flour is the major ingredient of cake. If you use substitute, it will not taste like cake at all. So if you desire to have a healthy cake then perhaps you can use wholewheat flour. I also don't think you will come up with a good tasting cake if you remove the yolk. Egg is a very healthy food anyway so for as long as you just add right amount of whole egg in your cake then it is not unhealthy at all.

You could make a cake with grounded almonds and as sugar is not good for anyone, why not use a minimum and only raw cane sugar. Cocoa powder also acts a bit like flour, making the dough thicker. Cocoa fat can be heated, so you can use it instead of butter or take half of both. Health stores might have some suggestions too.. Happy baking!!

I'm not sure if it will give you a very good cake but if you want to reduce the calories and fat, you can just put half part of whole eggs. :)
