A gesture that seems so impolite, especially if a colleague tried to create scene in a meeting with the higher ups. I've noticed this, whenever I am trying to convey my personal expertise to something that is viable for the proposed project. An index finger was put in the mid-mouth with a "sshhh" sound, how unethical to do it. You are not allowed to share ideas, when it is possible. The bottom line, the credit was not yours. In times of having a failure, then they tend to easily pinpoint using with the same index finger to somebody.

It is indeed impolite and disrespectful. Whatever the circumstances are, it is not good to do that unless you are all joking. If you were not supposed to share your ideas at that moment, there are other ways to try to stop it -- or not stop you at all and just discuss the matter when you two are alone.

That is not an isolated case, my dear. It really happens. Some people would not accept suggestions from others. And if something goes wrong, they would be blaming others for that.

I guess I got your point. You want to say something at the middle of the meeting but you aren't allowed to butt in. It's your expertise so what you have in your mind is something helpful or beneficial to the project. However, they aren't allowing any suggestions or comments. The credit isn't yours and when failures exist, they pinpoint the same finger to somebody. I hope they will allow suggestions in the near future. Happy mylotting.

Well, if you allow me to say, that "sssshhhh", unlessĀ  there really is such an important thing which should not issue even a breath, I consider it a gesture of genuine rudeness! Now I have well understood in what circumstances to you was made this gesture. However, it seems to me that to you have denied to can freely express your own personal idea, and this just does not go! If someone makes this gesture to me, I must say that until now have been silent, and I suffered. But I would like to change my attitude to make it clear to people who behave rudely towards me, that must bring them to me respect!

Maybe someday when you want to express an opinion or anything then someone with your index finger is inserted into the mouth with the middle voice "Sshhh" it will certainly make uncomfortable and less precise because it looks disrespectful. But I know the index finger inserted into the middle of the mouth with the sound "Sshhh" that should be used when there is noise, not to prevent someone from speaking.

I hate the manner of doing such. But, I can see for some appropriate venues like the library. The librarian made this, if the students create some noise that will affect the others.
