How to handle very loud music from a neighbors house?

Kenya

I am currently living in a rental apartment complex and we have no guidelines on how to co-exist with other neighbors in regards to listening to music. The landlady is not bothered by how the tenants live as long as they pay their rent and the police does not get involved in these issues where I live.A new tenant has been putting very high volume and even after having been told many times to put it down has absolutely refused. what is the way forward in this scenario?

I'm so sorry for you and that the police doesn't do anything. I know, because we've had neighbors like this and I know how horrible it is. I was about 11-12 then, and I couldn't sleep because these morons were having crazy parties at midnight, after which everyone would shout drunkenly to the other. I would try to disturb HIM when he sleeps just so he gets to know how he is disturbing you. And get a good pair of ear plugs :S.

Thanks Doroffee, the sad part is that the sound is too loud that it gets through my foam earplugs and yes I will look into a better pair very soon.

I also does not like loud noise and I think it is not good to have loud noise and I wonder how people are able to tolerate loud noises.

That's tough. If I was in your situation, I'd give it another week and if the problem persists, this is just one of those times in your life when you need to man up. Confront that person, people need their own quiet space and his invading it. Or better yet, talk to your other neighbors who are also pestered by this neighbor and gang up for the common goal.

Dan I get your point and I am so for it but I live with other young tenant ladies and their solution is to put high volume as well which is not practical but doable.I will just report it to the landlady as I pay my rent next week and then see what happens.

I think most probably you must try to talk to them once again tell all the problems it causing and may be sometimes they might understand. I always wonder why people cause trouble to others like this. May be they might understand and hope everything will be okay for you and everything gets well soon.

Talking to them does not usually work. Since we have informed the landlady and things have not changed then we will learn to live with it and hope that they move soon. Every time they put the loud music I just tell myself that that is a sick person who needs help and Leave it at that And I have found that it does not bother me as much.

Oh, I hope the new tenant would be considerate. He's not the only person living in the neighborhood. Talk to him again and try to ask the landlady. If you can't tolerate it then maybe it's you who will move out of the place. That's bad. I also hate noisy neighbors. Happy mylotting.

Thanks Angel, talking to him again is not an option as we discussed it openly in the tenant meeting last month and that is when the sound got louder.I will work very hard to get some good cash so that I can move to a great residence.Happy mylotting

I'm sorry to hear this, I know how important peace and quiet is in your own home. Too bad your landlady cares not but "business" only. I think the authorities should be called to interfere already. This isn't something that can be just overlooked as noise pollution is detrimental to health.

Raine in my country, the only time you call the police is when there is an unruly party going on but someone in their own home is debatable. I have been advised that I get a good pair of earplugs as we find a way forward.

wow! My husband also hates loud music. Have you spoken to the landlady about this matter? Do you know the saying "if you cannot beat, join them" lols. When your neighbor stops playing loud music, turn your radio on lols.

Hi, I wish it was that easy for me to put my radio on loud but I guess that I am a softee and I would not want to offend the other good considerate neighbors in the apartment complex.
