Computer in stand-by mode

I do own a computer, to medium-low. In fact mine is a netbook (not even a notebook!) ACER Aspire one D255. I, every night, before you close it to go to bed, I would simply lower the screen and then put it in stand-by mode. I have no idea if I'm okay, or should I shut it down completely with the power off. This shutdown, I do it only on Sundays, so only once a week. Now I wonder, for all those who own notebooks and netbooks, you turn off the machine completely every night, or do as I do, that is, lower the screen and nothing more?

alberello: good point. I am from India. we believe in saving energy. so i switch off my laptop whenever i am not using--even within a a day when i go out for work say four or five hours the laptop is switched off. But here in Canada and usa --my son and daughter --they do not switch off the laptop during the day time but put in sleep mode. Night time they switch off the laptops. I believe switching it off is good because all that memory temporary ones will get erased. even otherwise in order to save power i recommend switching it off at least every day night before going to bed.

Well then you advise me me not to limit myself to just put the computer in standby mode, but then shut it down completely. Thank you for your advice.

alebrello yes. 1) it saves energy which is to be saved in the interest of economy/nation/globe. 2) probably it helps us save money towards running cost and possible repairs also. This is more so in the context that you are yet to get employment. Are you appearing for interviews and or you applying for jobs regularly?

switching it off is good habit uncle and I also turn off my computer if not used. If I will work on computer after some time then shut down and after some time open it.

I always shut down my macbook. I don't left it on a sleep mode. That mode still consumes battery. I only do that when I still need to use my computer after a little while. But when i sleep, my computer needs to rest too, thus i need to shut it down.

Ah, well, dear friend Toniganzon, you're already the second person to me, personally recommended to switch the power off the computer at least "in my hours of sleep," and maybe leave it in standby mode, only during the day so who is immediately ready for use.
