LinkedIn for increasing web traffic?

Is it possible to use LinkedIn to increase traffic to our sites? I have no idea exactly how LinkedIn works. Is it one of the social media sites? What is really the function of this site? Thanks.

LinkedIn is a social networking website for people in professional occupations. It's not for increasing web traffic, it's for showing who you are as a professional.
You can mention your education, your current job, your working experience and stuffs like that. Well, you can put your website link there, but it's not intended to increase the web traffic.
Similar with your profile on your myLot; you can put links there, but it would not significantly increase the traffics.
