And fire you because of what they see? Everyone is entitled to a private life, and as long as there being professional in the workplace what does it matter whats on their Facebook page? What do you guys think?

I would say if the person really doesn't post or do something that's is effecting your company in a bad way, then there is no reason to check the workers facebook account. It actually depends alot of things, I guess. If a person has marked their workplace in Facebook, then he should be more careful of what he is posting in Facebook. If he hasn't then I would say he has more freedom in doing stuff in FB.

I've read news reports and articles of people who were fired over their facebook profiles, and in the UK its becoming rountine almost that potential employers will check your Facebook profile.

I have heard same story in Estonian media also. I would guess the easiest way to keep your job is to keep low profile in Facebook or not to have account over there at all.

I do think employers should be able to check your profile page, if people are posting things that they don't want their employer to read then they should adjust their privacy settings accordingly. An employer could learn a thing or two about a person just by looking at their page, things such as maturity level can be accessed here. For example, seeing a person post their drama all over their status is probably not something an employer is interested in and therefore they might not hire the person due to this-- I feel it's fair!

I think it depends. Facebook is a social media, and if it is on the internet for people to see, I don't think it is "too private". It shouldn't be the sole basis for firing someone, but it can be used to fire someone, especially if the person is telling through Facebook posts company trades and secrets which is a breach of contract of employment, just to give an example. The best thing to do about this? Do not do Facebook at work, and be wary in adding bosses and colleagues into your account. Also, be responsible and wary of whatever you post on Facebook. If it is a private thing, then don't you think it shouldn't be posted on Facebook for people to see? That defeats the very meaning of "private".
