Country name is singular ..grammar

FOr example, while I was watching cricket I noticed the following. Pakistan need 127 runs from 100 balls Is it correct form of statement? I studied that the country name is singular and hence I thought Pakistan needs 127 runs from 100 balls Sir, AM i correct?

The sentence is correct.Pakistan is country and it seems that there should be 'needs' instead of 'need'.But here the word 'PAKISTAN' is taken as a team consisting of eleven players.It means the eleven players of Pakistan need to score 127 runs from 100 balls.Hence the statement is correct.The eleven players of that country 'need' to score 127 runs from 100 balls.
