I usually hear from my friend that swearing is most reliable than making a promise.I really think that they are both the same.I was always thinking of it when she have said that and because I am really curious about it.Yes, sometimes promises are meant to be broken and in promise you will have to do something but in swearing, you will solemnly declare something or you will honestly tell the truth.Am I right? What is the difference guys?

I agree with your friends explanation. Sometimes, Promise is giving assurance that something will be done or not done. Promises are really meant to be broken and a lot of people take it for granted. But with swear, I think its much deeper and it has a wider meaning. Swear means it can't be broken and it's very important to an individual.

what i understand is that swearing is affirming something sacredly, in the present or past, and promise is assuring something that never happened yet, and most of the time it does not happen at all ,.. promise...

In my eyes, they are similar. The motivation is to persuade you believe in them, the purpose is to ensure their benefit won't be influenced, such as ,keep a relationship, get help whenever they need and so on. Actually, they are both easy to say but hard to comply with.
