Having and Expressing Opinions

Someone once said, "Opinions are like assh***s, everybody has one." This is fact. And I for one generally has no problem with people expressing their opinions, freedom of speech and all that. But I do think that since opinions are just that, than everyone has the right to agree or disagree, and no hard feelings involved. Therefor, it is my personal desire that when people express their opinions, that everyone do so with respect and not expecting people to just agree with them. Bottom line, respect is the key whether we're the one giving opinions, or the people responding to others' opinions. In my experience, respect is what makes the discussion fun and actually progress in content and ideas. Peace :)

Yes, and I like how you put it too, "expressing ourselves freely without being overbearing and disrespectful". That makes a big difference in whether a discussion/interaction progresses positively or not. We can't all agree on the same things, but at least we can agree to be decent and mature :) Thank you, and happy mylotting to you too :)

@lynnes75 Many a times we see discussions becoming heated and the admin had to intervene ...This is I guess a natural thing because people do get carried away when they are discussing about topics that they feel passionate about - politics and religion are two such topics that always bring out the worst in us...

Nicely said, lynnes75. So allow me to share my view and opinion regarding opinions. Uh-hum. Opinions are natural in our everyday lives. Whenever we hear something or we read something, we unconsciously make opinions about that certain topic. While respect is important in considering each and everyone's opinions, let's also take consideration about how we could correct the false opinion without hard feelings. That is to say, produce a win-win situation. Why? Because when we voice out our opinions, there are actually rights and wrongs about them, so even if respect is present, we should always think ahead before even sharing our own opinions. Have a good day.

Agreed also :) And touching further on your opinion of 'correcting false opinion without hard feelings', I do agree since this is part of the reason why I think respect is very important. Why? Because generally people would not take it well when we 'correct' them simply because they think they are not giving false opinions. When this happens, people get defensive and things can get heated up fast, and name-calling (amongst other nasties)) happens :/ Too many times a good discussion get derailed when this happens, and I can't helped but think "Missed opportunities to learn from each other simply because people can't discuss in mature and respectful ways." :/ And yes, I also think people should always think ahead before just giving opinions. Thank you for responding :)
