Hi, We have festivals here in honor of the saints our forefathers chose to celebrate. It is actually the remnants of the Spanish colonization when they brought Christianity to these parts of the world. Before them, there are thanksgiving festivals celebrated annually for the spirits around, of the rivers, of the forests, or just about anywhere that may seek the fancy of the people. All of these were for the good harvest of the crops, being spared from the damage of the pests, typhoons and other inclement element beyond human control, thus the phenomenon is always attributed to supernatural beings. The ways may have been changed, novenas, prayers, masses and the usual overflowing of food and drinks from dawn to dusk, but the sentiment is all the same, an act of thanksgiving to a fruitful year.
