You have heard from health doctors the potential risk of using plastic containers to heat in your food in the microwave..There are the potential chemicals that could leach into your food and cause health issues especially cancer.I believe that there are certain "number" on the bottom of your plastic containers that can be safely use..Do you take these into account when you buy plastic containers? or Do you avoid using them at all cost and use Glass containers for safety reasons? Please let me know what you think..

we have a microwave, but only use them for popcorn and that's rarely. we cook and heat food on the stove for lunch and dinner. i do like plastic containers especially clear ones because you can see what's inside. we use them to store fish, pork and chicken in the freezer, as well as leftovers. plastic containers also save space because you can stack them up.

Thanks for replying to my discussion..I appreciate that:) It's nice to know that people still feel safe to use plastic containers..I like your point on stacking them up to conserve space..It's nice for the you can buy high quality containers that you can store frozen left over foods in them..it's saves money on having to buy ziploc bags all the time...Do you reuse the containers after you used them for storing raw foods?

I have heard of this and I try to make sure that our really old plastic containers are replaced with new ones. I still have more plastic containers than glass ones because they're more convenient and light. It is hard to keep track though of the number of times I have used the plastic container to heat up food so what we usually do is to transfer the food into a glass or ceramic container when reheating and not to heat it directly on the plastic container.

I agree with you on that one..Plastic ones are more light and convenient to carry especially good for carrying lunches and you don't have to worry about breaking or dropping them. I reuse my plastic containers especially if they are numbered two or five on the bottom because I think they are safe for reheating in microwave. If they are numbered on the bottom or if it doesn't say microsave safe then i only use them for storing fruits, pickles, butter, etc.. I replace mine once they start to look run down or i can't find the lids.

I rather go over Glass Containers although they are breakable they don’t smell most especially when you are cooking greasy meals it is easy to clean up and it doesn’t have any problems on wiping it out after washing it. Sometimes plastic smells over even though you clean it thoroughly, also, plastic does discolor most especially when you used it over textured food such as foods that contains tomatoes or paste based.
