When I was young (that was ages ago), we had more war movies ..World War II, James Bond moviesand some musicals. I feared snakes back then. Though a snake never bit me, or anybody known to me. I was told they are dangerous. Books told me that. Acharya Vinoba Bhave said snakes are beautiful, and we friends laughed at that essay thinking he was weird. And I was a bit confused about Draculas, and ghosts. We were told loads of ghost stories and dracula stories when there were power outages in hostels. That is the best time to tell them. I even participated in some pranks. Then as I grew up..Jaws entered the scenario. Ironically, I had dissected those jaws (smaller ones) to study them. But never feared them. However, the movie made me fear them..with its background music score..I have still not said hello to any of these arch enemies of mankind and it is unlikely unless some alien craft decides to lift me with a clasp and throw me in deep seas. Next on list were Aliens, dinosaurs, warewolves, poltergiests, nightmare on elm street, evil dead, and some electronic contraptions. Honestly terminators were not as scary because they didnt contort their faces sufficiently. However, the head to toe (no robocop) robotics without any human skin did give creeps. As did the scream and species. And so did psycho. In all these, I think the worst is psycho. I am hardly ever going to see the others. But I might come across psycho and there would be no background music to warn me. So do you get scared of the real thing or other things that you are not sure will ever materialize? Do you get scare of everything? What is the object of creating such fears? Do you think they affect your psychology..like when you are walking alone on dark empty road..do you expect something bad to happen to you? Why dont we have more musicals..I would expect some musical band to start singing somewhere..have a good time walking back..and be at peace..

Vandy dear Do you get scare of everything?------I am not scared of 'every thing' lol What is the object of creating such fears?----- They are human beings, more scary than ghosts.I have many ghost friends. Do you think they affect your psychology..like when you are walking alone on dark empty road..do you expect something bad to happen to you?---- Yes, at times I feel one of these scary human beings, may kill me from back...

Professor - I will be honest, when I used to work, it often used to be late in the night, at times well past 2. And you know no buses move, and it is not safe to wake auto drivers at that hour. So walky walky it used to be. The heart used to do lub dub lub dub..lol. Not because I expected some warewolf but something lurking in some corner..lol. I remember I used to pick a heavy stone and keep it in hand just in case I had to hit somebody and run..lol And people from karvy also left around that time. So I could see some solitary figures walking several several feet ahead of me. You cant run up to them and walk with them because you are not sure you can trust that person, and yet their presence in that lonely night used to be like ..if I have to scream somebody will hear..lol

If I had more money I will make that movie. If it doesn't go well in the box office, we can be successful with 'Animal planet'.

Hi Vandana, I remember when I was a school girl, if I want to visit my uncle’s place which is near but some distance away (visible from home but you know in village, houses are not so near). The timing may be in between 7 pm to 8 pm, I felt shame to tell any one; I am sacred to go alone, showed that I am brave enough and can go alone. Once I left his house, then I run in full speed till I reach my house, I follow this method to both ways (lol). There were rubber trees all over the place and it adds the scare, secondly snakes and other reptiles too present. But now I can’t say what I sacred exactly in that time, the snakes or any human beings?

We were not born with it, were we? Even our scriptures didnt have much to tell against the night fall as far as I remember or understand. Then why are we so scared?

Hello my friend vandana7 Ji, Well, I think it is all the way our mind thinks and presnt to our brain. Normally, I have not seen any of these kinds of films, but as an hostellar, these things were matter of discussions, but I never feared as I know, such things can never harm me. I am retired soldiers wife, and during our service period, many a times my hubby used to be outstation and once, in Taj ngari, my house was very close to grave yard, having small three children between less than a year and maximum five yrs, was a great testing period for me. Days used to pass somehow. But whenever night falls, I used to be scared due to security reasons and then very near to grave yard. Dogs barking at nights used to send shivering cold in my body, at times dogs will bring some bones and drop near my house entrance. But I kept all my senses under control and never allowed them to wander as per tehir ways. I do not get frear from such things. Regarding snakes, same Tag nagari had many snakes, in mu court yard, when I was cleaning my hoouse hold items, snakes will pass by without hurting me. On Naga-panchami day, we will keep bowl full of milk and it will get emtied soon. They never harmed us. In reality snakes are afreaid of human-beings. Only taht we should not run away and punch them. May God bless You and have a great time

I have had close encounters with a few snakes myself..:) And yes, they did not harm me, but I would be lying if I said I didnt get scared of them. One of them could rightfully be called the serpent because it was about 5 feet long and almost 6 inches wide..dad had come down to visit me and we were getting down the stairs of the hostel when it just passed by us next to the steps. Ghosts, i would rather not think of them. Since I have not met any, I wont believe in them. But some strange things that were possibly coincidences happened in my life. Hopefully, nothing like that ever happens again. :)

But why use technology to create fear when it can be used to create something beautiful?

The first application of fear on humanity is a phantom called god with religions as its application tools. There is no greater fear than this in the known history of mankind. Vamans have been really feeding on our flesh and bones for the last 2,000 years like ghosts. Then came the foreign rulers to India to have their shares like the dracula. Both the ghosts and draculas existed only in books but vamans and foreign rulers have been real blood suckers. After independence, we got a new breed of rulers like wolves in skins of jackals feeding on our leftover bodies. Our Italian queen has now created modern blood suckers - the foreign investors, like robots to cut the rest of us to Halal. So, what more can be fearful to us. Yes, these ghosts, draculas, wolves, robots have been affecting me psychologically even when I move in calm atmosphere in the broad daylight and I tend to run out of the country on finding the first opportunity. Now, all hopes of musicals are shattered.

You should better get used to TV serials, once you'll be brave enough to digest them nothing else, no background music any where would make you scared. And snakes are rare species these days so nothing to be afraid of. Cheers- now time to act your age baby.

Actually, we are being programmed to remain in fear I feel. While being prudent is good, expecting only worst at all times is silly...when we do that, we subconsciously tend to stay home in the nights effectively making some places more lonely and scary may be..
