I hear this so often I mean like in the movies like the phrase People are starving in third world Countries you know like when someone you know is throwing out good food thst can still be aten or even if they buy some sort of food you hear that phrase :People in third world Counties are staving don't waste food like that . For one I never understood what and why they call these Countries? What is it? Is it true? Are people really starving in Third World Countries? And what Countries are considered these so called Third World places? I know I have seen extreme poverty on the television and I get so mad because their Government for that matter our own President does nothing to help them and it brings tears to my eyes and I can only hope and pray that some day before I die that maybe I would win the lottery or even just become where I have enough money to help them It is a prayer and wish I have had for so long to help places like this. I did see some thing about a poor place in Kenya and Africa and I just wish some Government would help them and believe me if I had the money I would help them myself but anyway are these places considered third world Countries or what are they? Can anyone help me understand what they are? Thanks My Lotters Looking forward to the answer.

These third world countries are getting some help and I am proud of the celebrities that go to these places and help as well. I think that people who are well off should come to their aid as much as they can. The use of this phrase started back several years ago. Here is a link that will help you understand: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_World

What used to be called "third world countries" are now commontly called underdevelopped countries. Some of those countries don`t have the riches or the technology to overcome poverty. But there are other countries who have the riches but they are not distributed in such a way that will keep some of the population away from hunger. If you want to help, check the site freerice.com. You can play a little game and you will be donating rice every time you get one answer straight. It`s free. You donate your time, not money. THe money is placed by the sponsors.

I like it when I find a place where we, people who don`t have riches or power, can make a difference

Countries who are called third world countries are countries that are economically poor. And yes, it is also true that there are so many people starving in the whole world. Here in our country there are many cases of malnutrition. We have a good government that provides projects for the poor and malnourished but I guess problem regarding the poverty is too big that the government find it very hard to totally eradicate the said problem. Sometimes the problem is among the people also. There are cases wherein couples have 5 or more children and they dont have jobs to provide their kids even the basic needs.

there are many poor countries. I live in Mexico and many people here are ppor. many live without electricity or water. I think every country is the same. Just some have more of it. its sad to hear that a family doesnt have food for themselfs or their kids.
