Crawlers and Indexing, How to use?

I was checking the settings of my blog awhile ago. And exploring the possible things on my blog. When I notice this Crawlers and Indexing. I am curious how to use it? Can this help me to learn and earn more from my blogging?

In fact, I am not familiar about these items. But I have some idea about it.
I think......
Crawlers are the Search Engine bots, which often check our websites/blogs.
Indexing is nothing but listing of blogs in Search Engines.
It helps us to get good ranking in Search Engines.
It is possible only by using Meta Tags.
