When I was in high school I didn't like the history lessons mostly because I didn't have a good teacher. She had no enthuasiam at all and it seemed like she didn't enjoy the subject she had chosen. When she talked about the different history topics she couldn't hide how bored she was and her lessons weren't exactly inspiring. I felt very bored in her lessons. I tried to concentrate, but I often ended up daydreaming and thinking about other things instead. I did not look forward to the history lessons at all. Today I have left school and I have learned to appreciate history. I sometimes read historical books in my free time.

Well, I cannot persuade you to like the subject if it really doesn't restrained you. But I think if you want to survive you have to make it at least interesting for yourself. If the way it is taught is by memorization, I won't blame you. Even as a historical buff, my mind flies away when it comes to dates, places and people. If you want to survive history, make it simple. Since most of the time, history is a sequence of events try to do a timeline or any orderly sequence. Put the details into as notes. That way, you will remember them but not as chunky or bulky. Association is also key since you are dealing with three elements (time, place and person). It may also help to learn the motives of the people being discussed. That way you understand more why the event happened - not just the three otehr W's. I do like history but not all history. I tend to be partial to some and ignore the others. Take it one history or event at a time or treat it like a jigsaw puzzle. You don't have to take it in one go. Of course, you also have to make some effort Even if you don't like the subject or don't feel that it won't serve your interests.

I do not really like history way back when I was still in high school. However, I did appreciate learning history in college. It really aroused my appreciation for it allowed me to gain knowledge of our past presidents, ancestors and other native origins.

I never was a fan of history in school as well, probably because we were drilled to remember all the specific dates and significant events so much. I guess it really depends on your mindset on whether these sort of things actually interests you, because I did have a few classmates in school who were actually very interested in history and even spent hours in the school library to read up on the World Wars etc. Perhaps they were just interested in the political and military leaders as well as the war tactics they used, but I think that's a good motivation to learn history anyway. I can't offer any advice on tolerating the subject though; even I myself found it hard to cope when I was still in school!

Yes, I do like history when I was at the school. Specially about the history of my country in the 12-14th century. Also about history of Islam and world war 2.

I don't fancy history either but my hubby does. he knows so much that I feel dumb in front of him. so now I have started to learn somethings from him. I think it is good to know about history of different places. maybe you will want to try to fall in love in history which will help you concentrate when the teacher teaches. Thanks so sharing and have a wonderful day ahead

I used to like history when I was in secondary school and I used to score high marks in this subject as well. I say you should give it another shot. History is actually fun, but it requires a lot of reading and research as well.

For me, people live in the present. They plan for and worry about the future. History, however is the study of the past so it is really important to study our history. The study of history is important for a number of reasons. One of the most important reasons is that it enables us to appreciate the importance of institutions such as dramatically elected parliaments, the rule of law, trial by jury, an independent judiciary and the need to protect them. Another important reasons is that history provides us with a frame of preference that enables us to recognize dangers to our society, both from within and externally, and it provides guidance as to how to deal with those dangers when they arise. It's also helps us to understand and interpret the present better. The same as your life, all that you lived, has made who you are today. Learning from other people's mistake is one of significant aspect of studying history.

When I was a student, I really was not that fan of history subjects...I am really sleepy attending the subject...but since you are still a high school student, you have to study the subject in order to pass....anyways, it is just purely reading and memorizing....just focus on it...you will still face it when you get in college...like I did....

I am from India and I love reading history, especially the history of my country in the sixteenth or seventeenth century.I love reading about those days when my country was struggling against tyranny and conversions.I learn a lot from history.History enlightens me about our faults that led us to dependence and the great figures that sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our motherland.I am sorry,I can't give you tips as to how you start loving history. All I can say to you is,try to feel the thrill of reliving days that are gone for ever.May be this would make you interested in the subject.
