Anyone keen to get a new laptop for themselves? Currently i am planning to get a new laptop. My requirement is to get a laptop with faster speed and light in weight for travelling. All this while, i have been using Windows version laptops. I like it because it is convenient and ease my problems whenever i have to download certain applications for my use. However, I love MacBook more, the only problem is that it is running on Macintosh. And, if i were to download applications needed, it is not free...i have to pay for every application i want, unlike Windows are much easier. It has been 3-4 years i am not active in IT and gadgets exhibitions. So, definitely i am very much outdated already. So i would appreciate if there are any ideas or help with the models and brands that can meet my need? =)

If you want light and handy to bring, I will advice you to buy Macbook. You have the old Laptop now with windows so you can used that one to download applications.

Thanks for your advise. But my current Windows laptop may not last long i suppose. It gives me a lot of problem. I have been reformatting few times as it often shutdown by itself or cannot switch on. Even if i can download the applications through my Windows laptop, but i cannot transfer the application to Macbook, because Macintosh or Linux does not support anything from Microsoft. =(

Linux is far different from windows. I like linux because it's not pron to any viruses. Maybe the virus not supported by their system

Yup, that is true. Linux are not prone to virus attack or being hacked. Mostly Windows and Microsoft are more vulnerable to virus attack. Hence, we always need antivirus, malware, spyware and defender to protect the computer from being attack by all these. =D One advantage of Linux is that they do not share their applications widely, they only can support applications for their own type. Troublesome, but safer.

I would love to get a new laptop. I have had three Dell laptops and have been very happy with their performance. The Inspiron model is expensive but it is the best I have seen. I used to work for HP in customer service and you know what type of computers they used? Dells.

Hi celticeagle, nice one. 3 laptops all for yourself? One for game, one for work, one for studies, another new one you want to get is for? Hahaha...just kidding. So, you are planning to get an Inspiron model for yourself anytime soon? Woot?! HP company using Dell computers? Are they not liking their own HP brand? Well, i have a Samsung gadget, and i went to Samsung service center for some warranty issue, i saw their customer service are all using Samsung computers. Wonder why HP does the opposite...Even if they do not use HP, they can choose Compaq, since they bought over Compaq. But i have come across Compaq to be a very lousy brand, their stuff is not long lasting. My friend bought a Compaq laptop, the next day it gives problem. .

Yeap, overall durable and quality wise, Dell is still standing high in the market. Wow, can i say you are a Dell laptop fan? I have a friend who purchased every single Apple gadgets, regardless iPhone, iPad, iPod, Macbook...you name it, he has it. He is really crazy fan of Apple and buy all versions for collection. =D But i supposed you really buy it for proper use. =)

Its hard to find the right laptop. I would suggest going into Best Buy or a computer store and ask them what would be the best, get all the information you can because each person or sales person is going to say something different. The most bytes may not be what you need but a faster processor might. I would do some research based on what you use it for, general computer work will get you the cheapest but not always the fastest. You travel so find one that is easy to carry and will hold up under pressure.

Thanks for your caution! I almost forget i need one which can supports pressure. That is a good point. I knew it, somehow or rather i did find something from this discussion. =) Yes, i will need for work. I am not a gamer, so i do not need any special graphic card with super speed, but a faster processor will be good for me. But the lighter the laptop is, the more expensive it is. However, still researching for the best.

Hi, I reckon you have formatted your laptop drive a few times to no avail. I should advice to swap the drive for a new one but given the price of a new drive, it is much better to have a brand new laptop altogether. You should consider the RAM size (at least 4GB), processor (dual core AMD that can do 3GHz) and hard disk capacity (750 GB) of the latest models that cost as low as USD300. I have a preference for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) processors for their low temperature and good performance under heavy usage. For durability, it used to HP that led the trend but lately, Lenovo has beat them to it. I can vouch for the brand, we receive a lot of Lenovo here for minor repairs, OS and HDD replacement mostly and I am surprised to learn that some of them are already five years old. Now, that's a lot given that laptops are given only months in terms of age. Some models has smaller monitor size, try the 15-inch ones, they have a good weight to performance ratio. I would love to have your old laptop for repairs but I understand you live far from my place, shipping costs may be prohibitive.

Hi rog, thanks a million for your kind offer. Yes, i live far from you, and not really a good idea on the shipping process to get my laptop repaired. I have reformatted my laptop myself for like more than 10 times, i think. Besides, i did send it for warranty twice already, and got a new harddisk changed. But i prefer to get a new one to avoid sudden crash again, without any notice to me. Currently i am having all my backups in another external harddisk after facing sudden crash from my first experience. Currently my laptop RAM size is 4GB, Intel Core i5 @ 2.27Ghz. Previously i have a friend using AMD, but her computer gets heat up easily. Hence, i do not prefer to get AMD for myself, worrying that i may face the same problem. But later on i bought AMD motherboard and processor for gaming purpose for my brother. Overall performance was not bad. Maybe i can give it a try. Oh really?? Lenovo is that good now? This is something new to me. Yes, i have seen their laptops exhibition and quite competitive. But least that i know Lenovo is such trendy in Philippines. Maybe next round i should pay attention to Lenovo brand because previously Lenovo in our country is not famous and popular.

Your laptop is an i5 and so your only option if you want faster processor is an i7 if you still preferred window based laptop. You can try This Dell model : Inspiron 14z Ultrabook™ and New Inspiron 15z Ultrabook™. and ask for an i7 processor. Cheers!

Although the two models are pricey, I believe they are premium and much durable than your laptop right now and also Dell are trusted brand worldwide. Have a nice evening! Ciao!

Thanks, romzee! Appreciate them very much. Oh yes, i have a model here for your advise. What do you think of Toshiba Notebook (Model: Satellite Pro L830-2006)? I heard this is the current fastest speed in the market in my country. But maybe this is already out for sometime in other countries. Well, this is Core i7 too. What do you think? =)

Hi romzee, thank you very much for the recommendation. Yup, the better one would be Intel Core i7, or Macintosh/Linux. Definitely i will get more information of the two models you said above. That would narrow down my scope of research. =) Cheers!

Brands for laptops don't really change. The majority of brands that existed 4 years ago are the same ones that exist now. If you are not knowledgeable about computers, your best option will be to visit a computer store nearest to you and ask the tech guy there for advise. You will not go very far with obtaining such information on the INTERNET. Also at the store you can FEEL the physical weight and size of the computer to know if it fits your needs.

Thanks for your respond and appreciate it. I suppose there are quite a lot of experienced members in this field. Well, i have knowledge in formatting computers, purchasing component parts and fix them myself into a CPU unit, and selecting appropriate software depending on needs, and even by looking at the specifications, i can understand what kind of computer or laptop is it. I mentioned that i have not went to PC exhibition for quite some time as i am no longer active, but i still do have understanding in gadgets. Hence, through members advise and some latest updates about current new highlights would enable me to search for it particularly to see whether it meets my need. There are many different sizes, features and models in the market, but with the experience of the members here will reduce my scope of searching.
