I Feel Like I Have Bugs Crawling All Over Me!!

Two nights ago I was sitting watching TV and instantly started to feel crawling sensations all over my body..even my eyes. I have had nerve problems before but nothing like this. I actually looked for bugs and saw none. You know how it feels when something is on your arm and it brushes through the hairs..it even felt like my hair was moving. It is crazy!! I remember right before this happened I got a really weird tingling sensation on my head..it was a cold sensation and the odd thing is that it felt like I was getting a massage...It does not hurt, just really mind-blowing. I have had muscle twitching and nerve sensations before and thought that was bad enough. Nope!! I had a steroid shot a few days ago, but I had them before and nothing ever happened. I have been to doctors before because of nerve problems and MS was suspected and tests were run that did not show anything. So if you have any similar symptoms please let me know...I do have arthritis in my back and suspect nerves being pinched, but my Rheumatologist says no to that too..so, let me know what you think and if you have ever heard of such strange symptoms.

I think what you're talking about is called formication. It's related to menopause. I don't know how old you are but it may have to do with other things as well. here's a link about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formication I hope this helps a little.

Wow, I appreciate the link you posted..that is very interesting and it sounds identical to what I am feeling. It has driven me crazy though last night I didn't have those feelings. If it gets any worse I will go talk to my doctor! Thank you so much!

You're welcome! I'm glad I could help. There are other sites that have information about it. Now that you know what it's called you can do some research. I also found two other links you may want to look at. I don't believe much in doctors, as I have gotten my arthritis under control and built up my cartilage with herbal supplements and all doctors wanted to give me were prescriptions to deal with the inflammation. They say you can't build up the cartilage but that's not true. I had arthritis in many joints and now it's gone. I haven't had a pain anywhere in 3+ years. But back to you - these links are natural remedy links, one is a forum talking about the the "crawling skin" the other one is informational about Vitex, a plant. You may be interested. www.healingwiseforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9622 (forum) and www.susunweed.com/Article_Vitex_RedMoonHerbs.htm Hope it goes away soon. Good luck!

I could be very wrong, and this is a long shot, but are you on any medication that may have caused the sensation (medication such as painkillers for your arthritis)?

The only thing I take for my arthritis is Advil. The other meds they put me on caused some severe side effects. I have taken Advil for a long time so I really don't think it is that..however, I am starting to wonder if my thyroid meds or my hormone meds are causing it. I don't know for sure. I am still really suspect of the steroid shot I received the other day..hopefully I will figure it out soon! Tank you for the input!

This sounds much like a problem my mom had after walking or any exertion. She said it was like little bugs crawling under her skin. It was very unpleasant. I believe for her, it had to do with a circulation problem. I know sometimes I think I feel something on my skin, tickling or like water sprayed, but nothing is there. I'm curious to see what is the cause and I'm seeing a naturopath to iron out some mysterious symptoms.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i can understand your problems and i think there is nothing to worry about. Even i sometimes feel this kind of sensation over skin and it seems as if something is moving over my skin but the next moment the sensation is gone. It generally happens because of our internal processes and if u think it is happening everyday then it would be preferable to consult a doctor about the same. What say?
