One of my hobbies is watching movies. I love tearing them apart, analyzing them, trying to see if the movie can hold my attention and keep me intriqued, while other times I'm just thoroughly entertained. Now, although I realize that sequels usually aren't that great, what really irritates me is when they do a second movie and have the same characters but different actors play them! How about you?

do you know that skyfall has been released this week? it is the long running sequel on the James Bond character. It is really intriguing why some movies go on like that. I particularly liked the Arnold Schwarzeneger sequel of movies. At least, he was consistent in portraying a picture of what the villain is and will always be.

Yes well that's classic James Bond, movie after movie....I like Daniel Craig, but he's not James Bond. Now I too like Arnold's movies, and you're right, at least they kept the character close to the same in all the terminator movie. Even when they switched his character to a semi good guy, they still made it flow so the movies were good.

I definitely agree, one cannot enjoy a movie that is trying to run on the original movie's glory or success. I lose interest instantly as the credibility of the movie goes down to 0. What bothers me though is how the producers of these movies aren't aware of this and how it will affect the movie's performance?

Oh I believe they know all too well but don't care. It's money, the bottom line.

You're not the only one my friend. I hate it when they do that too, and not only that I also hate it when its a sequel to a movie and the first one was reallllly great and then the second one is always with different actors that are no good and the 2nd one is like a rip off of the first one. Directors have ruined a lot of good movies doing that or atleast i think so.

Yes they have! The 'Mummy' series had 2 sequels, the 2nd one wasn't too bad, picked up where the first one left off and was pretty good! Then they followed with th 3rd one and had a different actress for the wife. Ruined it!

Thanks a ton for posting this discussion. Well yes i too love watching movies and especially i like watching all types of movies so that i can understand the plot and characters in them properly. I agree to u on this fact that remakes have almost taken over the filmy market and the most irritating part is when the story is repeated again. No doubt there is no issues with the remakes but at least the concept and theme of the movie should change. What say?

You are right, it seems the movie industry has run out of original ideas. They are either doing sequel after sequel or, as you stated, remakes of really good movies. And yes, the remakes are either poorly done or nothing like the original.

Very true. That's just awful that different actors are used to play the same characters in the first movie when the audience has associated the characters with certain actors. It will make the movie quite unbelievable especially if the original characters were played by famous actors.

My point exactly! I feel the same way. The movie just isn't the same.

I don't like that either. I understand that sometimes people get in a big fighy over money and actors need to be replaced but that rarely happens. Most of the time seeing actors replaced especially good actors replaced with either bad ones or ones I've never heard of tells me this. They made a lot of money off the first movie and they're just trying to squeeze a few more bucks out of it. So they go ahead and make a poor quality sequel in hopes of riding on the coat tails of the first one. I can't stand it when they do that in television shows either. It often is a good way to kill a good series.

You're right it ruins a movie and definitely ruins a good series.
