Is reputation important?

Politicians, world leaders, corporations don't seem to care much about reputation. Should we? Do you think you can be comfortable in your own skin being a slimball? Can you be bought out? If so how much will it take to get you to cave in?

I think reputation is important, but if you're exposed to the media so much, you can't have a 100% good reputation, because nobody's perfect, and for some people, nothing gives more satisfaction than digging the dirt out about successful people they are jealous of. But there are people who are that rich that they could get away with anything...
