Why do most people think they are right just because they are older?

I don't think it's necessarily accurate to say that they "think they are right just because they are older." Age is not an accomplishment by itself. Some people say that with age comes wisdom. This is definitely a myth. There are old idiots and there are young idiots. Simply being older does not make you right, but experience can help you better decisions, that is if you learn make from past mistakes, which is the the best way to learn.

Indeed , age is not a determinant in saying that one is knowledgeable enough to think that he/she is right, my friend. Although, we do not learn things by education alone, but through experience. However, when one is already old, he/she should also acknowledge that other people may be more right in some terms than they are.

Yes, education and experience widens one's knowledge and wisdom. However, some older people become biased and doesn't want to be corrected specially by a younger person. They are folly enough not to accept their mistakes. Nice to hear your words about this topic. Have a nice evening. Ciao!

I totally agree with you. I know a couple of people who are older than I am and yet they're no better in their mindset as my 16 year old brother. I also know some youngsters who are way matured when it comes to real life and life decisions. Maybe because the fact that hey haveq experienced more than we do, or have seen the world longer than we did they think they already have an edge by experience. But that's the thing, these experiences would mean nothing if they wouldn't learn from it.

But this is not the case to some people specially to the people so close to you like your parents or older brother or sister. They will insist as if it is their birth right to be correct and you have no recourse but to follow them. Thanks for your response. Have a nice evening. Ciao!

Yes, they all think like that, especially our parents... actually moreso our parents. I always hear this from my mom... she would always tell me that she's been there, done that.. and i am just on my way and she's already on her way to return so she knows all too well what is to happen to everything!! Believe me, i haave had a lot of times to tell her that everything is so much different, it may look and feel the same, but no two person lives the same life exactly as it is... we can learn from others mistakes, but never totally elude not being mistaken. when we do something wrong, this is how we learn afterall...

I agree, one can't claim he/she is right or more intelligent because of age, but it is true that as we age we become more responsible, wiser and probably more intelligent too

I do encounter such situation! Most especially when you are in with groups of mature people and you are the only one who is the youngest in the group. I don’t like that such people give the notion of superiority just because they are far older than you, sometimes it’s quite annoying because you have no equal thoughts since they want their opinions to be heard first because they know that they are older than you. Sometimes such people do this because they feel they had acquired more experience in life than you are. It’s not a fair trait at all.
