Do you red the book before watching the movie or after? Or not at all?

Some people like to read the book before they go to see the movie, other people choose to read the book after. There are even peope who don't read the book at all. I am a person who belong to the first one. Since my reading hobby comes before watching movie. I have been love to read books since my childhood and I am beggining to love watching movie in my teenage. Long before the movie being made, I often have complete reading the whole series. SO, what about you? Which group do you belong? First, second, or third?

I watch the movie first. If I liked what I saw, I read the book because the books tend to be better than the movie, so yeah. I love reading as well. Do you have an account in Goodreads?

I only joined there just for the sake of joining. lol But seriously, they have personal recommendations, not just the one from listopia, and they have bookclubs who meet online whenever, I don't know, I joined two bookclubs but don't really contribute much. And it's a great way to keep track of books you read, want to read or things like that.

No, I don't have. But I often visit Goodreads when I am trying to find some new books to read. I find that Goodreads recommendations are often the same to my preference. Especially the one with fantasy adn young adult one. But, I am curious what is the benefit to have account there? I am thinking to make one myself but don't enough will to do that.

I'm a huge movie buff but not really into reading. With that being said I only watch the movie. I have considered reading the book though but just haven't brought myself to it yet. People are always saying how much better the book is then the theatrical version. I actually went out and purchased a Harry Potter Book so I could see for myself however I never got motivated enough to read it. Poor Harry Potter is sitting in my closet somewhere.

Many my friends are the same type like you. They even don't have the will to try read the book, much less buy the book.

I started watching movies at a very young age. Reading was always a chore. So I usually have seen the movie not even knowing it was based on a movie! In fact I used a movie to help my English grade. We had to read Tess D'ubervilles. Well I had seen the movie Tess in class And before I got into the class. All I did was watch and take notes. I got a B Without even reading a chapter!

If I know I am going to be reading the book anyway, I will try to read the book before seeing the movie. This is because movies made based on books are usually changed enough that they don't match up with the book as well as they could. So because it takes longer to read the book than to watch the movie, the book has to come first. Otherwise, if it ends up that the movie has been changed, it only takes a short time to watch the movie. But if I see the movie first, then read the book and see the many changes, I usually won't finish the book just because it takes much longer and because having seen the movie I have a picture in my mind of everything and when it's different than the book, it gets ruined. That's another reason...once I read a book I have images in my mind of what everything looks like. If the movie actors, or the set don't match what I imagined it to be, it disappoints me. But since the movie only takes a short time and reading the book takes a lot longer, it's easier to get through the movie dealing with those images in my mind. I hope I wrote that so that it makes sense.

I'm more of a movie person. Friends of mine who are also writers can't understand why this is. I try to explain to them that researching, writing and editing 8 hours a day, 6 days a week is a chore. In my downtime, I don't feel like reading. It feels too much like work. So I'll definitely opt for a movie if available. I don't want to say reading is overrated. Philosophy, history, even books on political theory and theoretical physics -- all worthwhile. But for a straight fictional story, why not just watch the movie? Some folks claim that it's stealing away from imagination and all that. But look at our world and how advanced we're becoming. We didn't have iPhones and 4G Internet and today's medicines back when we just had just books and no TV. My advice to people: Watch the movie! When you want a good story, entertain yourself. When you need to learn something, pick up a book.

You seem to have the same argument as my dad. I feel like talking to my dad when i read your post. I can see you point, but to me reading is more like a way to entertain myself. I like the sensation when I imagine things that are written. Often I am wondering about how those detail-amazing plot story can be invented and come to life. And I know how after read your post. Anyway, I used to think that writer will automatically love to read books. It seems I get the wrong idea. Maybe after having to read a lot for research can make you sick of it. Like someone who gets to eat a lot of cake and become dislike it after

It depends on the book. If it's a history book, like Killing Lincoln, I'll read it. If it's an entertaining, fiction story, like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, I'm watching the movie.

movies based on books end up using the book for marketing purposes or they want to ride on the success of the books. no movie has ever claimed to be adapted from a book and gave you a true account of the book. you either chose to read the book and watch the movie, or do either. There have been so many movies based on jane austen's book, pride and prejudice, and each tells a different story.

I have to say that there is one book that has had the movie made afterwards and stands true to the book. That is "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. One of the rare times I saw the movie before reading the book. We had to read it in school or I probably wouldn't have read it. But I was amazed at how closely the movie followed the book. You don't see that too often.

Wah, I just realize that adapted movie never the same as the book. I know that there are always some minor different between them, but for marketing purpose?! No wonder great marketing will bring you million...

I have done all three at different times. Sometimes I have seen a movie and liked it so much that I read the book. The one book that I liked and read before seeing the movie were the Harry Potter books. It made a big difference in explaining things that you might not otherwise understand. Sometimes I'm not at all interested in the book. I think it just depends on whether I feel like reading or not.

Usually I read the book after watching the movie, for most of the time, I do not know the book at all, the way let me know the book is watching the movie or TV series. But it is good for me, for most of the time, the book is more interesting than the movie, it contains many details about the psychological activity.

I don't do both, but one of the two - either read the book or watch the film. If I am tired I would watch the film, but not both. Too many things to do in a day.

Maybe I'm in none of the groups available I usually read a book, then watch its movie(if there is one),after that I would go back to the book Then, I would cry,as the films ofen ruined the story. Just as mydanods says that: movies based on books end up using the story for maketing purposes or just want to get ride of the story'success./smile

I am not that much of a book lover, however, if i see a movie and found out that it was adapted from a book i would definitely read the book so that i can understand more about the story. Also, reading out the book would give you a comparison on how it was adapted in the film. As you can see, in a film it has limited time so reading the book would give you more information about the characters of the story.

There are times that i read the book first before the movie because the book came out first so, if the movie became available in the market that's the time i watch the movie and there are also times that only the first season was release and i got bored or waiting the completion of the next part so, to end up my agony i am for to read the book sequel so that's my circumstances. So, though i am not a book reader avid but since i badly needed to know the next part so, i need to read it...hehehe CIRCUMSTANTIAL..

Hi there! I really can't say which of the first two choices I'm in. But I can say so far, I read the book first before I watch it on film. Because its usually that way. I mean, they publish the book first before they make a movie out of it. So its seldom that I watch the movie version first before I read the book.

It all depends on the the book and the movie. sometimes I like to see read the film's version first at and vice versa. Ssometimes it does not seem tto matter while at other times it matters considerably to the feel of the movie.

I think a person who read the book first will not like the movie as he liked the book before. That is the nature of people. however Cinema and books are 2 different medias. so experience what you gain is different. i like the both.
