In biblical times, a yoke was placed around the oxen necks. It was binding, causing them to walk in the same line, unable to separate. So in like manner we are "yoked" with our spouses. We are bonded for life. Thus as the person above said, it is meant for believers in Jesus and is meant in terms of marriage. The second poster is also bringing a good point for the bible also says "how can two walk together unless they agree" meaning if you are yoked to negative people or people who don't believe as you, how can you agree. Thanks for reminding me of this scripture. Awesome.

My interpretation on this is that we shall not be held back by unbelievers and don't let them skew your views and beliefs, this is probably one of many things in the Bible that are hard to explain because its written into a metaphor

I am not an excellent in the interpretation of the Bible but I come to know that it's a biblical principle for Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. If a person is a Christian, wanting to marry, that person should not marry an unbeliever. There are a lot of reasons that would entail a full article to discuss it. I know you will come to know more as you make further studies about your concern. It is actually one of the great principles many people are following, not only in bible applications but can be applied in many areas of our lives. Good day.
