I went through years and years of decorating for the holidays. Now that my children are grown it seems I just dont seem to have the interest to decorate. Thanksgiving is this Thursday and I should be decorating my mantel and bringing out my illuminated Xmas tree that is about 3 ft tall. My grandbabies are in Kansas and I am in Florida. Already got them their gifts and had shipped directly to them so I am trying to get excited about just decorating a bit for my husbands mother and law but I when I read more and more people with families losing their jobs, I just feel so bad for them and the Sandy hurricane I just dont have it in me this year to feel so cheerful. Is everyone else excited about decorating for the holidays?

I hear you. After raising 5 kids, and husbands just sit and watch you do everything I think there comes a time in a woman's life she has had enough LOL!

I can't say I am excited about it, it is just something I have to do. I used to love to decorate, but since I have gotten older, it's just a chore. It seems like a waste sometimes, because I do all this work and then very few people see it. A couple of my friends and I take turns at each other's homes. It is my turn this year. When it is not, I decorate, but don't bother with a tree. It is only a 3 foot fiber optic and isn't hard, but where I have to put it now, I don't see much of it anyway.

Yea I know you have friends over. Friends here in florida are not like midwest. We have so many transit people that it is very hard to make a friend to keep. I have not put anything up. I might dig the 2 angels I have and sit on the mantle. But I think this year has been so stressful the holiday season is just not there this year.

Can't say as I've ever been much for decorating the house for Christmas... certainly never had lights on the house. I do have white "fairy lights" on the arbor out front, but they stay up all year, and are solar powered. I put up my cross-stitched stocking on the mantle, even though no one puts anything in it (maybe because I have an ancient teddy bear stuffed in the top). I wait until December, though, before putting anything out that isn't out year-round.

Oh Barb you are awesome LOL I decorated my mantle with a silver and blue garland and white lights. I could leave it up and used it for a nightlight throughout the year. And I got away with it cause it just looked nice cause it was silver and blue LOL
