Been bored and wanted to make myself busy. I graduated an engineering course and we don't have board exam like any other majors. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering to be specific. Right after graduation, I worked in data processing company and after that went abroad. We do process computer hardware abroad in Gigabyte company. Everything went out fine and I'm so happy that I have a great advantage with my colleagues since I'm a Computer Engineer. When I came back in Philippines, job for Computer Engineers are not in demand and salary is low so I was tempted to work in a call center. In a call center the compensation was so great coz it was run by foreigners mostly americans and it's fun. Though I'm not very good in English but I did try my best just to passed. Luckily, my prayers answered and landed a job in a call center. Years passed, I realized that call center is not an ideal job for a lifetime. Opportunity came and went abroad again which is too far with my chosen career. I worked as a receptionist in one of the hotels in United Arab Emirates. Then later on, came back in my homeland, got married and bear a child. Now my son is 3. Now, I wanted to teach. Is there anyone here knows what to do for me to be qualified to teach? Can I just apply in one of the colleges here in my place? Or I need to study again? I think this is best for me, to have time with my son and at the same time I nurtured my career.

I really do not know situation in your country. From your experience, it seemed you have experienced big changes in career, from engineer to receptionist? That's huge change! In my country here, to be a teacher you need to have the license. If you graduated from professional school, you will get the license after examination. Good luck to you!

All I know is it only requires license if you are teaching in elementary and high school. I think there's no need for college, I'm just not sure about this.

There are school that will hire you because of your experience and educational background... you can always teach computer... but in order for you to beat the competition... you need to take professional education classes... i thing 18 units will do... All schools offer computer subjects so computer teachers are in demand... but those that pay good salary require their teachers to be board passers... so if you keen on joining the teaching world with a good salary... you have got to study again...

Yes my friend, you can do that.. You can apply as a teacher in any private schools in our country. You can't apply in a public school because the Department of Education only allows LET teachers to teach. But If you apply in a private school or universities then it is possible. All you need to do is pass your resume and explain to them that you are capable and expert enough to teach the children of the school. -Happy Mylotting--

I am a teacher and I was a Computer Science graduate. Now teaching English here in Thailand. It is easy to find job as a teacher in the Philippines. Most schools (high school and grade school) offer computer education to students. You just go to different schools and lodge in your application letter and resume. You had a very good working experiences so that will not be a problem. In fact, I can see that you were lucky to find jobs. But teaching is a hard job, it is not an 8-hour job, if you have a child you might have difficulty coping. Some schools though require teachers to have a license for teaching. Most of the time, if the school is considerate enough, they give their employees of two years to take Certificate in professional teaching, so that they can apply for licensure exams. In college, you need to have Masteral Degree. Are you ready to be a teacher? It's a committment.

Hi Jenith! I graduated as a Computer Science and i applied before as a computer instructor.. The school hire me because i have backgound in customer service and computer software..You dont need background in teaching for you to be hired by school but the thing is the starting salary is to low if you doesnt have any background in teaching. I also work in a call center as a customer service representative and later on as a computer technician and the salary was better.. but the thing is my time.. Im already a mother and need more time and attention to my son.. its really hard for me that time because he was going to school already and my time was graveyard shift..Being a mother is very tough job but rewarding.. :) Dont Worry Jenith since you already have background working in a data processing company and thats abroad you have the a very big potential to be hired.

Hi Jenith! I can only recommend what I know and my experience. I am not aware where you are residing so the process might be different. To start, I'd like to share something about myself. I used to teach it was actually my first job. I did not do further study. After graduating college and passing the board exam, I was given an opportunity to teach in my university. I went through series of interviews, one from the Engineering Dept. Head, University President, and I had a teaching demonstration. After passing those three, I was given the job. In your case, I am not sure if the university will require you further study. I think the first thing that you need to do is to ask. I commend you in being brave in switching careers and thinking about the welfare of your son.
