So this is what our dogs eat?

The ingredients of dog dry food - If you knew this is what our dogs' dry food is made of, would you still feed your dog dry food?

Hello dog lovers, I suppose many dog lovers read the discussions into this interest so I thought I could share with you what I found. While browsing the internet I run into this picture. Basically I knew what are the ingredients of the dog dry food. But seeing them like this made me have a second thought. How could all those stuff make my dog happy? I wouldn't be happy to eat that! Take a look at the picture below. If you knew this is what our dogs' dry food is made of, would you still feed your dog dry food?

Don't be surprised to it, actually the dog or cat food are made from some useless meats, livers and so on. At least many brands of the pet food are the same, including Whiskas. I read an article about the Whiskas pet food and it is worse than I expected.

Oh, but I knew about Whiskas and Pedigree. I heard about the two brands being some of the worse pet products on the market. Do you feed your pets with dry food? What brand?

I don't have a dog, but I would feed them anything they like. For example, I have a friend, and her cat only seems to eat one certain brand of cat food, not even human food like meat... so as long as they like it, why not? of course not the cheapest brand, though.

Well, some dogs are such big eaters, they would eat anything, no matter if it is something healthy or not. They are like children. They like to eat anything that's tasty, but many tasty foods are not healthy. So feeding your dog anything they like is not a good idea. We should eat them healthy food, you know.

Hi octav1 I have to admit that it´s very simple to serve dry food. When I was a girl I remember that my father´s dogs always had a kind of poultry chicken soup with rice. But I dont have time to prepare them this poultry, and its very simply to serve them the dried food, my elder girl is in charged of doggies meals. Very simple and dogs love them. Don´t you think so? Why? Blessings octav1... dainy

Hello Dainy, Of course, feeding our dogs dry food is very simple and, yes, dogs seem to love them. But I am sure they'd choose some juicy steak instead (if they had a choice.) I am afraid the list of ingredients from the food bag is something to worry about. We shouldn't believe the commercials blindly. We must try to discover the real ingredients they put in our dogs' food. For instance, what do you understand by 'chicken by-products'? Under this name, they hide chicken bones, feathers and claws. Would you feed your dog with chicken feathers?

Hello Octav, Not all dog dry food has the same ingredients list. But the cheapest ones do. For instance, here's what says on our dog's food bag: 45% lamb, including a diversity of lamb meats that reflects your dog’s natural diet (produced exclusively from lamb passed fit for human consumption): --Lamb Meal – made from fresh, ranch-raised New Zealand lamb meat, bones and cartilage; --Boneless Lamb – raw, ranch-raised New Zealand lamb meat; --Lamb Liver – raw, ranch-raised New Zealand lamb liver; 35% healthful fruits and vegetables, including Bartlett pears, spinach greens, butternut squash and a full 10% of Red Delicious apples – all delivered fresh each day (never frozen, no preservatives) I think it is a healthy food for my dog, though I think about changing her diet to raw food diet sometimes. It's good that you started this discussion, maybe more people will be aware about what they buy for their dogs.

Hmm, it seems there aren't too many interested in the subject. Or you didn't choose the right title for the discussion... When I was a newbie I started a discussion about the 4th of July and how to keep the dogs safe during the fireworks display. There were so few responses! But, when the next day an older user started a discussion with the same subject, there were dozens of responses. Maybe you don't have too many friends here.

I never put it this way. I thought every dog lover should participate into an interesting discussion, no matter if they are friends of the discussion starter or not. But you may be right. What title do you think I should have chosen?

I thought there will be dozens of comments on this discussion, but it seems there are not too many dog lovers interested into this subject. You may be right about the different dog dry food brands. There may be some that put more efforts in creating a really healthy food for our companions.

I saw this on facebook in the past, and I shake my head when people say I feed my dog Pedigree, or my cat Iams. They are slowly killing their animals, and causing the vet bills later on to pile up. In the past I never looked at my cats food before whether it be wet or dry food, luckily it wasn't a bad food (which I bought at a pet food store). Now working at a pet food store, I know a lot more with the training I have. Many simple don't want to spend the money on cat or dog food that is healthy and good for their pets, instead the cheap items, then the dogs,a dn cats dont live as long.

I don't think everyone is getting the point. This is very unhealthy food for anyone, including our pets. I see by some of the responses that some people don't care what they feed their dog. I have cats but I try to make sure they eat healthy. Dogs will eat just about whatever you give them so it's not hard to feed them nutritious foods. And I'm not sure why there are not more responses here. This, to me, is a very interesting topic, especially with the picture you've posted. Does anybody care what their dog eats???? There are plenty of dog owners on mylot but I wonder how many dog lovers there are. Sorry if I sound insulting. No offense is meant. It's my sarcastic sense of humor. Maybe the dog lovers are all out walking their dogs or out buying healthy food.

I wondered why there aren't too many responses here, too. Someone suggested that I may not have enough 'friends' here to be interested in my topics. Maybe it is true, but I still think there should be many other dog lovers involved into such kind of discussion. I imagine the cat food problem must be the same. Some people that are running only after profit don't care what they put into our pets' kibbles. The pet owners ignorance is what they count on. The fact we don't have too many participants into this discussion may show those people profit will increase. That's sad.
