Why didn't they just climb on each others shoulders?

This post contain (Spoilers) if you haven't scene the movie I was relaxing at home and I was board, so decided to check out the movie Open Water 2 Adrift it was on cable, and I couldn't find anything else worth watching The film is about 6 friends getting trapped at sea during a yacht trip in Mexico. as I said the small group of friends end up trapped at sea, why because their captain friend forgot to let down the stair ladder before they decided take a swim he wasn't really a captain just a reckless care free guy, I guess that would explain his stupidity and bad judgement The group of friends end up floating in the water for hours or maybe it was days I'm not quite sure about the time frame, needless to say they were in a extremely bad situation. they had no safe water to drink and there body's were weak from trying to stay afloat not to mention there was baby left on the yacht while the child's mother was struggling to get back on the a bored Ok now that we all understand what happened, here's what I was thinking pretty much the whole time I was watching Why didn't they just use their body's as a ladder & just stand on each others shoulders? I mean use the knife and hook it on the yacht to keep one person steady then other person just get up on their shoulders and back up on the ship/boat it seemed like they all suffered for nothing. Anyone else wonder the same thing or do you think that wouldn't work?

haha your idea seems great, but in fact the surface of the yacht bottom is made up of glass fiber reinforced plastics or carbon fiber, so you cannot piece it just by a simple knife or hook. how hard is it you know?

and even if you could somehow grab a hold on the yacht's hull, the person at the bottom couldn't have enough footing and leverage to hoist, much more to carry, another person on top. have you tried floating in water with somebody climbing on your shoulder? i mean floating. not merely standing chest-deep in water.

What about this In the film the group took their bathing suites off and tied them together to make a rope of course the men were too heavy and rope broke But what if the men held one of the skinny women on their shoulders so she could maybe pull up, yeah I know it might be difficult due to the slippery boat ledge, but it would seem like 6 people could use their body's to support the other person somehow And besides near the end of the movie the last two survivors did just what I was thinking the whole time, yeah it might be a little unrealistic but maybe it's not impossible One note to consider their was already a slight open line where the hatch door to the yacht stairs. it was very tiny opening but it was there.

I saw that on television and thought the same thing.

Yeah I kept thinking that the six of them could have used their body's to make a way back on the boat instead of going through everything they went through and eventually dieing, that situation didn't seem as hopeless as it ended up being in the movie.
