Why is it so hard to find a place to watch tv online?

I was trying to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving parade online on NBC but it said I had to download a type of player.Those are supposed to be susceptible to viruses so I didn't.I t seems like it used to be easier to do that.Anyone downloaded a player without getting a virus,or has anyone gotten a virus but got rid of it?

I sometimes watch BBC I player but it was on my computer anyway - never had to install it

I watch tv alot on line here. I like many shows from the usa, and I livein Mexico. many times I have to download something to watch them. I never mind, its safe to do.
