Everyone is moving

Our population about a year or so ago was 500 people, they are trying to build 40 new houses in this tiny town in one spot (they already have 3 up and building the rest), now they are taking our dead end street, and building 20 new houses. I told my parents have a nice time, I am planning on moving north. All the idiots from the city will be here by the spring time and ruin out town. They cant drive, they whine about everything, I mean we park on the street (the neighbours and us), they want sidewalks, community picnics, and parks (swimming pools, skate rinks), whhich in the end raises our taxes. I want nothing to do with them, and their way of living. We had a couple down the street move from Toronto who whined to the town about the distance driving the grocery store and trying to get one build down the street. I am moving north to get away from all these people, we have our way of living, and its way different then theres, the rate of crimes will go up (the police department serves about 25 towns) which means the rate of taxes goes even more up, to hire more police officers. Everyone around us, are selling there house. Literally there are 2 of us on our street alone that arnt for sale, the other is redoing their house to sell it. My parents cant afford to move, nor could they sell this house (its rather outdated, and well my dad being a handyman and all). They are cutting off half our backyard to extent the highway that in the near future (according to some engineer) will need 3 lanes each side. So I am looking way north of here, so that I wont have to move every so many years. I will soon have to move out of province to get away from the cities, they are taking over our country side even the next town over has put in over 900 new houses. I remember growing up everyone watched over everyone, and we would help each other out with neighbours, now you cant even trust your neighbours. I want back in a lovely small town with nice people.

i grew up in a small town where everyone on the street knew you and honestly, even in small towns, people don't want to take the time to get to know their neighbours these days just because most cannot be bothered.

I think it depends on where your from, and if both sides want too. I find people around here tend to be more willing to help, as they know my relatives. I know when I broke down (had a flat tire here, I had 15 people stop and ask if I needed help), whereas in the city not one person stopped, and almost hit me and my Dad when he changed the tire.

That happened to my mom, dad and me. We lived in a sleepy little town called Homer. The town took part of our yard and paid my dad fair market value (what they said was fair) and we had to move put in new septic lines and hook up to them. That little road is now a 4 lane highway. I'm glad I know longer live there and that my parents are passed away.

They will eventually do that to here, I want nothing to do with these folks from the city. They are so rude and ignorent, when they move up here they expect everything to be changed like the city is run.

You and me both, except I don't want to move north. Every time I go up to Elora to visit my aunt, we pass all these what used to be small communities taken over by mushroom houses springing up everywhere. You could be outside the old city limits of Milton, or Guelph and not know where you really are because the houses all look alike: big and ugly, close together and that dull mushroom color.

I imagine Whitby's getting built up, too.

I havent been back since I moved after college, maybe once or twice that was a few years back now. They were moving North as well, building everything up. Even Newmarket is moving this way, I see it even within a week or two when I go to my dcotors appointments.

I have never been to Milton or Guelph. I use to live in Whitby / Oshawa when I went to college. But I am looking at lots, as many townships will allow you to have a mobile home (such as a granny suite) that is hooked up to septic (it must be hooked up to septic). I would love to live out in the country in the bush.

Oh, I'm wishing my town to become more modern; however, I want to take it back. It's still good to live in a simple but lovely town with nice people. Goodluck to you. I hope you'll have a better and more peaceful life when you move north. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

I agree completely, I want to be in the country, and would be much happier there.

Your parents have no reason to move... if you think you MUST move away, do so. Otherwise, stick on to the roots.

No, they will repeatedly argue, and bicker about it without moving, or changing. I am planning on moving north, to be happier and away from all these idiots from the city.

Well that sucks their doing all that and can't just leave the town how it is. I live in a small town and we have fast food restaurants and grocery stores and a big lots and I'm not sure what our population is. But I heard their trying to make our town into a city but I doubt that will happen. I would move too if I were you, I like living in a small town, you know everybody and they all are glad to help you when in need. Good luck to you.
