Is normal birth not 'normal'? It seems to me as if so many new moms chooses to have c-sections? Why?

I thought it was up to the doctor to make that medical decision. It takes a lot longer to recover from a C-section than a natural birth. It is harder on a woman's body. In the long run, it is not the easy way out. A natural birth is best for the mom and the baby. So, a C-section should only be for medical reasons.

There you go! I agree with you - c-section should be the last option and only for medical reasons. Bye!

The only thing I know about the difference of the two is the pain that you will feel during delivery. It avoids hemorrhoids and strain on the baby while being delivered. This I saw over the net: http://www.thepregnancyzone.com/labor-delivery/the-benefits-of-a-cesarean-section-delivery/

Normal birth is sore... it is very sore, but so very rewarding when the baby eventually pops out and then handed to you... It's an amazing experience, but I do understand that the risk of hemorrhoids are there. Thanx jenny1015.

Some ladies consider themselves too posh to push their baby out. A number of ladies have to have an emergency c-section. A lady that has a c-section must not drive for around 6 weeks after that major operation to deliver her baby. My mom had a c-section to have me. The reason was she had a very challenging time having my sister born five years before I was born. She was in labor with my sister for three days and they had trouble getting my sister out of her. They had to pull her out with a machine. My mom's consultant saw my mom's medical notes and told her she would have to have a c-section. In America c-sections seem to be popular. In the UK where I live it is usually for a medical reason. I like a natural and active birth. I like to have a home birth and I have done that three times now.

I live 3 miles from the nearest hospital and that is midwife led. It is for healthy pregnancies only and normal push labors only. If there is an emergency an ambulance will take the the lady to the city hospital 23 miles away. I had two midwives, my husband and my mom for my first labor. For my second labor I had two midwives, my mom and my older son. For my third labor I only had one midwife, my mom, my disabled son and my older son. I feel happier every time with a home birth. Home is relaxing and a hospital can be stressful. I am aware the midwives are busy so they clock watch. I did a lot of laboring at home before the midwife or midwives arrived. I had news that the daughter of the childminder I employ has had her baby boy born. Yes, on Boxing Day.

I think you are right - there are some women who think they are to 'grand' to push their baby out.... Hahaha, as if they would be the first woman seen by the doctor... haha. When you had your home birth, who was with you? Doctor only? Were you not scared that something could go wrong - or did you stay close enough to the hospital... just in case?

Choice or the idea between pain and no pain perhaps,c section is under sedation, and because compared to just a few decades ago, it is not as high risk as before, exept for a scar that eventually heals, i have a friend who had opted for c sections in both of her deliveries coz of the dread of a painful natural process,so because the option is there easily available many moms to be choose it. depends on the mind sets ,there will be those who will absolutely insist on having a natural birth because it is how it was intended by the natural process of things in life.

Yah, no-one likes pain! I agree that the option lies with the mom, hey. Birth is still high risk and we sometimes forget that so many things can go wrong.

I had my first baby almost 2 years ago and my second 15 weeks ago. I didn't do a c-section at all by choice of course. I wanted an all natural labor with no medication at all besides what they had to give me of course. I almost had a c-section with my first which was my daughter. I was induced at 34 weeks with her but thankfully I had her before 24 hours of being induced. Now to answer your question about first time moms. There are a lot of women that do try to have natural births but can't because either one baby is in the wrong position, two the mother is at risk or the baby is at risk for a natural deliever or the doctor thinks the baby is two big to make it throw the birth canal. Also most doctors will not let a women be in labor for more then 24 hours because then she is too tired to even try to push or if the water is broken it can lead to infection which isn't good to the baby either.

C-section is great when the baby and mom's life is at risk. You were fortunate with your first baby, hey? Take care.

Every pregnancy is different so weather it's normal or not just depends on that womens body and her pregnancy. I choice natural labor all the way as long as both me and the baby where okay I was willing all the way and to do it with out pain killers with that as well. Thankfully both babies where head down and where never in distress and that it didn't go past 24 hours. If you in labor to long and your water breaks it can cause and infection to the mother and baby and kill either one. There are many reason why to choice. One your body isn't build for it as in there are other medical risks, the baby is two big, you have something that would put the baby at risk for going throw the birth canal, or you've had some kind of surgery to the abdomen before and of course a pregnancy that ended in a c section as well.

True. If there is a slight chance of complications, the good doctor would advice c-section. I have a problem with doctors who wants to go on leave, or travel overseas and then suggest a date for the baby to be born - for their own convenience off course!

I think that option is given by their obgyne and not entirely their choice. For most it is offered to avoid complications. I think a mother will choose normal delivery if only they could since it will save them more money and the wound from normal delivery will heal faster.

Thanx brew2x. A friend of mine choose a c-section because her pain-level (so she say) is very low and she did not have the courage to give normal birth.... can you believe that?? Well, she had three pregnancies and persuaded the doctor 3 times!

For me it was more that the Dr's recommended a C Section because I was induced and my baby's heartbeat was fluctuating and I wasn't progressing at all so they wanted to get her out. I think Doctors these days are more cautious about health risks to the baby and mother. Years ago they didn't do C sections, however there were probably a lot more mothers and babies dying during childbirth then there are today. I intended on the normal birth but obviously things didn't work out that way

When a mom and baby's health, or life is at risk, for sure C-Section! I trust that you and baby are healthy!
