My female dog came into heat about a month ago. I assumed she wasn't in heat because she never bled. Come to find out, she was in heat. My male dog and her got tied together. I planned to breed her down the road, but not now. How do I know if she is pregnant for sure? This was her first heat but she is a year old. Could this be dangerous for her? She is a red nose pit bull if that matters. And if she is pregnant what would can I do to prepare for her to have the babies and to take care of the babies? I don't want any hate comments about pit bulls because my dogs are sweeter than my mom's chihuahua. I also don't want any comments about how I am irresponsible for letting it happen. I would like legitimate comments that will allow for an adult conversation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I won't tell you are irresponsible for letting it happen. I understand you know that better. Now it is a little late to be sorry. The best way to find out if she's pregnant or not is to take her to the vet for an x-ray. But, if you found them tied together, there is a small chance she is not pregnant. So, be prepared for the puppies to come. The first advice I want to give you is to try to find good owners for the puppies. It is never too early for that. You wouldn't like them to be some stupid teenagers' dogs and to see them in the news... I am sure you'd like them to become good dogs, exactly like your dogs - "sweeter than your mom's chihuahua". You could try to give the mother dog better food and some vitamins, to help her young body get over the pregnancy easier.

It is a little early for her to have puppies but she will be ok. It usually takes about 63 days for the dog to deliver puppies. Because she is young and it is her first littler you may have to help her clean the puppies. But once they start to suckle her she will figure out what to do. I bought a small plastic swimming pool and put a blanket in it to keep the mom and puppies in one spot. It worked very well. You could take her to the vet and he could xray her to see if she is pregnant but it is expensive. I would just wait the two months and if she starts getting fat you will know.

My previous dog gave birth before. I did not do much other than the normal to prepare her for the birth. As for signs that she is pregnant, I am not aware of it until her tummy grew much bigger.
