To be or not to be

When I was in high school I really wanted a title for my name like, Atty., Dr., CPA, but then I realized that the road towards my dream is not straight. I chose to become an accountant(hoping), but I really had no idea it was this hard. So technically, i'm in the danger of being kicked out of the program/course because I screwed up big time. But I still have the choice to stay or to leave the program. If you were in my shoes, will you stay to pursue your dreams, or leave and venture out to new paths?

Hello, thank you very much for sharing about this. This is so timely, since I have met so many people who are going through the same thing. Another thing is, I am going through something very similar to this... How should I start? Let's just say that we all come to realize that no road is ever easy, even when you choose to go through the path towards your dream. But then there's the question: "How do you know what you're dream really is?" It's that one definitive question that's the key to setting your direction. I cannot however give a definitive answer to that. But I can give what I at least have come to understand, which is very limited. Going into college we're studying the course that would most probably define the kind of lives we would be living 'til we die. Each course has its underlying values to be upheld, risks that must be faced, and decisions that you alone must make when you finally live it up after graduation. Accountancy teaches its students like you and me: transparency, integrity, objectivity, wisdom, and sharpness (among many others). But it also places us in the troublesome field of business where ethics are not the favorite card of many of its players to succeed. Especially in the type of society we trod, we will surely be extremely tested as it is in our modern-day accountants "where the lives of enterprises- from SMEs to big corporations- are at stake". So for us who are faced with the realities of the world (especially for us who are in the stage of choosing the path we are to take), the questions we must first ask are "What kind of life do I want to live? What values do I uphold? What would the title I will be graduating with, bring me? What kind of person do I want to be remembered as? Will I be able to preserve and stand up for it, up to the very end?" I think once you have answered those questions, the next query would be "How?" Well, all of us have our passions- drawing, writing, investigating, researching, driving, etc.! I believe that it is in those passions that you can find the answer. But supposedly, you can't purse that passion. Supposedly you are way into Accountancy that it would be impractical to turn back now, especially when you're depending on relatives that don't earn as easily as others do. Supposedly it's not possible to turn back. Be practical. But that doesn't mean that you throw away your ideals. Look into the good in what you are learning now, it might be the proper stepping stone to set you on a better path towards your dream. Or another situation that could be- supposed that you see that Accountancy is your "dream" but it isn't just working out. I found myself in the same spot. Don't give up easily. If you believe you can give a more towards practicing and studying the craft, go! Give it all you got, even if it means less sleep. But also, keep on reflecting on yourself. Ask yourself the questions I mentioned above again and again. If Accountancy is the path you really want to take give it all (without losing the sense of doing what is right). And even it isn't still give it your best. If you fail, then breath and take a rest. It might be you haven't given the right and honest answers to the questions above. But always PRAY. Like my teacher in Advance Accounting said, "Study hard. Pray harder" Pray hardest. GOD alone knows what's best. Hope this helps.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well even during my school days, i used to get fascinated by these titles and used to ask elders the reason behind these titles and later on i got to know that one has to do hard work to get these titles. I think even u had experienced the same situation as i had and i would like to say u that no course is big or small; easy or tough; it all depends on my mindset, preparedness and our willingness to accept the concepts. Even easy subjects seem difficult for some and difficult seems easy for some. So give your hundred percent efforts and stay focused and confident and u will succeed in life. What say?
