What I just read about wheat surprised me

I read wheat of today is totally different from the wheat used in the 50's and 60's. As I understand it, the difference is a result of genetic engineering of wheat...so for me that means I need to cut out just about all wheat to lose weight and esecially belly fat... I always lose weight with higher protein diets, but never seriously considered this wheat angle. I thought I was doing my health a lot of good eating whole grain wheat bread...

You won't have to worry about the genetic engineering if you purchase organic bread or wheat.

I didn't either until I got into this group on FB. For years I was buying whole grain bread, but didn't realize just because the package says, "whole grain" didn't mean it was not GMO. It is more expensive, which is why I love finding "manager specials" at my local grocery store in the organic section, because I am guaranteed the ingredients are completely natural.. :)

I think that the key to success is to cut down a bit on the amount of food we take. I know it is difficult. We cannot go against the trend to manipulate seeds and meat with genetic engineering. It has its pros and cons and maybe there`s more people alive because of that. But we eat too much. There`s no other reason for my being overweight.

I hope it works. I eat enough protein, but need more exercise.

Hi stary1, lots of articles I have read saying that raw food is the authentic good to our health. Yeah they are healthy and nutritive as well as free from additives. It's conspicuous that the additional color and msg are harmful to health But they are very much delicious in taste as well as attractive in appearance too. No doubt the majority of us tend to pick them more than the genuine one. Whole grain wheat or oat bread is very nutritive but it's rather expensive in price. I prefer to take raw oatmeal as breakfast. I don't mind spending time to prepare it with delicious ingredients mixed daily Anyway health is more important than everything. Happy posting

lkbooi and allisonkk99 See, this is all very confusing for me...I keep reading Whole Grain breads cause wheat belly and even can lead to diabetes...This is happening because the wheat used today is not the same as the 50s and 60s because todays wheat has been genetically modified/engineered...I can't figure out if this is true..I always felt whole grain beard was suppose to be good for us..the more I read the more confused I become

Real whole wheat is good for us. So much of it is just carmel coloring. And in dieting raw vegetables and fruit is best. The more people incorporate these into their diets the better.

celticeagle TY...I too used to think whole wheat was good for us..but I am reading the current wheat is genetically modified and it is not good for us and causes belly fat. I am with you about fruit and vegtables and I am careful to eat enough protein too.

Good. It is important to be proactive and do some homework as to what is good or bad for us.

I agree with you, most fruits/vegetables/grains are genetically modified, here they call it 'Hybrid' variety; more over farmers use so much of insecticides/pesticides/manures that contain poisons You can get most things around the year, no more seasonal We suffer from diseases probably by eating them.

this is true but also keep in mind that if you're eating bread, whole grain and wheat is better than white. Plus, you might want to consider just cutitng down a ton. There's nothing wrong with the occasional indulgence!
