Dachsunds

Jasper and Amber - This is Jasper, my Min Pin, and Amber, my Dachsund. They are curled up in an office chair here at work. Most of the time they are snuggled together under a blanket in their little pet bed here at work.

About a year ago we were at the grocery store and saw a little dog across the parking lot. We teased a friend that works at the store about rescuing the little dog. He said no way, they had just takin in another stray. We finished our shopping and saw the little dog visiting another customer in the parking lot. The dog came running up to me then went under our truck and checked out my husband. Then she came back over to me, rolled over on her back and began wiggling. Well, we already had 6 dogs and I was thinking, no, we can't take in another. She looked all scratched up. She was in a busy parking lot. She had to have been dumped. I looked at my husband as I picked her up and said she could play with Jasper, our Min Pin, until maybe we could find her a home. A girl came waling up to me and said the dog had been there all day. So, thinking I might have the perfect home in mind for her, we loaded her up. Yeah, right. Amber is a Dapple Dachsund. I'd never seen one before. I looked online and was surprised to read that many Dachsunds end up in shelters because they can be a handful. She and Jasper have become fast friends. The truth is if she is away from him for 5 seconds he goes nuts. They come with us to work most days. They keep me laughing with their antics. Yes, I agree, she is a handful. The thinks she is as large and ferocious as a T-Rex. Even thought she was going to try to eat my best friends 150lb. King German Shepard. She keeps Jasper on his toes.

I guess Jasper found his mate. What a cute couple. They are so cute! Dogs are so sweet, that's one of the many things I love about them.

Thank you. They are cute. We found Jasper at a place claiming to be a rescue group. I say claiming because the animals did not like the guy running it at all. We wish we could have rescued all of them but we couldn't. He has some issues. He is terrified if I turn the heat on in the office due to the noise. He will go stand in the corner and tremble. I bought an electric radiant heater and it doesn't bother him. Goodness knows what he has been through. He does better with women than men. He just barks and runs behind me. But he is precious and Amber has seemed to help.

I don't like these breeds haha I don't know but I'm not attracted to them. That animal is so lucky to have you as guardian. Go animal lover!

What a nice story! How kind of you to take in that little dog even though you already had 6! You gave her a chance to live and be happy. It's like a Christmas story. And it sounds like she's repaid you by becoming Jaspers' best friend and playmate. I think it's great that you can take them to work with you. That's really cute. I had never heard of a Dapple Dachshund until I read this. How cute they are. She's a brave little thing as well. I hope you and your growing family have a Happy Holiday.

Thank you, but please, I can't afford to grow any more, lol. I'd never heard of one before her either. A friend came in and saw her and was familiar with the breed. That's how I found out. We had a older Rottie show up several years ago. She came back and forth with us to work. It was such a joy to have her here. Though she wouldn't hurt a fly she did come in rather handy one time. Long story short, some neighborhood kids stole a buggy from a friend up the hill. They couldn't get it to work so they left it behind our shop. The kids actually showed up asking for it that afternoon. They stayed put till the police arrived cause they were afraid of the dog. They didn't know she was harmless. When we discovered Jasmine had bone cancer we did what was right. She was old and suffered from arthritis as it was. It was difficult because we adored her. Life wasn't the same without having a dog with us at work. Jasper was in a place claiming to be a rescue site. Wrong, we rescued him from that horrible place. Sadly, we haven't brought them with us this last week. With my father in law in ICU we never know when we have to jump and run.

I know. At one time I had 7 cats! Pets can be quite an expensive venture. That's a funny story. Rotties can be intimidating without even doing anything. Most people don't want to make them mad. One of my nieces had an older Rottie that was arthritic and had Lyme disease. She was 14-15 when they lost her. She was really old and had started to have problems getting up and standing. It is very sad when they've reached the point that it's the best and the last thing you'll ever do for them. I've been through it many times. So Jasper was another lucky pup! I'm sorry about your father in law. I hope he gets well soon. It's difficult having loved ones in such situations. Especially around the holidays. But (sigh) life goes on and we do the best we can.

I'm happy to have her. She makes me laugh. She will grab a toy and run from one side of the room to the other going gruff, when she reaches one end and gruff when she reaches the other. She is trying to get Jasper to chase her. Tug of war is hilarious. They both cheat but she is the worst. She will pull and pull till she can't back up any further then rush forward so Jasper has to let go. If I'm in the floor with them one will get on either side and use me as leverage. She loves cats. However, Amber doesn't have an off switch and the cats run from her so the chase is on. I can purr and she will just wag her little tail. She loves to check ears. That cold nose in your ear, wooooo, it will make you squeel and send chills down your spine. I refer to them as my brascals. Brat/Rascals.
