Now my family buys the pets of the house present, and it all started because I bought mine things such as toys (none of the cats had toys until mine came home and I bought some).
I know they are spoiled, they get toys, and treats often. I just cleaned out their toys and threw the damaged ones out (some have been around the 3 years my cats have ben here).
So again I stuffed their stocking with treats, and toys. I went today and bought them some speciality hay they like for Marco, Max & Gizmoe for Christmas, then a toy where you hide the treats and they have to get them out.
My Mom bought all these items for my brothers dog, my grandma dog, and all theirs plus my sisters. She never bought anything for mine, she kept asking what do they need (well I try to stock up on say food, shavings, litter and so on), so if I can't afford it then I have some in my trunk.
I make sure they don't run out, when there is about a week left I will then buy another.
So today my Dad goes you are forget her animals, and my Mom goes they have everything, she doesn't hestitate to buy them anything and not buy herself things so they have it. She couldn't find anything to buy them, so she bought them a hay box (which will be used eventually), and that's it.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i can understand your case and i think whenever it comes to shopping most of us get confused and hence we loose our conscience very soon he he he. I think whatever u have got for your pets i am sure they will love it but more than that they should be taken good care and have to be given proper love and affection which is more than sufficient for them.
What say?
