Would you shorten your holiday to return to work early?

We have a huge snowstorm forecast for our state over the Christmas holiday. I know that if I do not leave before the storm hits that I will be delayed returning to work. I am not a key personnel for the job, but I am a supervisor and should lead by example? I think family should come before work, but I also recognize the importance to our clientele that there are employees who are there who are fresh and not worn out from working too many hours because of others who don't report to work. I would have to leave by 6:00 a.m. Christmas Day to be ahead of the storm if it follows the predicted path of the forecasters. I would not have the day with the little ones (grandchildren) but I would have Christmas Eve. What would you do?

That's a pretty difficult question. For me it would depend on how much I would be needed at the work place. If nothing was going to fall apart if I didn't make it back I would wait. The storm may not even be as bad as predicted. But for me personally, I usually need the money too badly to take time off so it might depend on that too! lol

I don't think that my pay will be docked. I am paid salary, but I have also had a lot of absences lately so I just might be docked! I need the money too. I have decided now since the storm is coming in earlier than planned and will lay down a layer of sleet prior to the snow, that I will just sit tight and wait it out. Also, since I don't know the direction of travel on the storm, it may be worse where I'm going than from where I start. That would mean I would pass the point of no return and may be in treacherous roads and not be able to turn back.

I would do that if only if i held a really important position in my company and there are urgent decision that i have to make for my company or else i dun see the need to shorten my holiday for it.

I'm not so important that the place can't run without me. I just feel bad that others may struggle to get there and I won't probably try to drive now because there is supposed to be a layer of ice before the snow. That means the roads will be really slippery, but it will go away within 24 hours usually.
