India needs more Dhoni like players

Talking strictly of ODI, MS Dhoni is the biggest match winner for India. He revels in tough situations and make sure that he is there till the last ball. He has played many match winning innings including world cup final. Players like Kohli needs to learn a lot from Dhoni. Kohli plays sensibly till he reached hundred, and after that he throws his wicket. He needs to steer India to victory and remains not out. Dhoni has make sure that there is no middle orders collapse like it was used to be in mid nineties. India need to have more player like him. The discussion is strictly in the context of ODI. In test, what happen to Dhoni, he looks vulnerable at the crease. I think some workload has to reduced from his shoulders.

just do me a favor ok. go to any of those cricket websites and go to Dhoni's profile. after you done that, check all his ODi innings. next mark that spot where he got that world cup final knock. so far good? then go backwords from the match onwards for a whole year from april 2011 to june 2010. get a calculator.add his runs and take your normal average, not cricketing average. then add his strike rates and take an average. look very closely at the figures and then your discussion. you might come across an average of 24 and a strike rate of 60. may be india need players of such classy figures leading to a world cup. lol

good response.talking about not outs. Dhoni usually is the last recognised batsmen, followed only by all-rounders and bowlers, agree? because he bats at number 6 and 7,he gets to bat with top order batsmen only once. after that he has to bat with all-rounders and bowlers, agree? just assume you are the opposition captain. lets say you got out raina. now dhoni has to bat with say jadeja, ashwin and bowlers. what would you do? bowl to get rid of Dhoni first and wipe the tail later or give Dhoni easy singles at the start of the over so you can attack the bowlers, get more dot balls and even quicker wickets? no captain would go with the first option friend. because they are clever and so is dhoni. now he will be given easy singles and not worry about getting out. dont look too further. remember ashwin's knock of 91*? cook didn't mind giving him single so he could take out ishant and ojha. they had bowlers who could have cleaned up ashwin easy enough if persisted. but they didn't? why? because that the boon of being the last recognised batsmen. just take the 2nd ODI. ashwin got out trying to up the ante in the 30th over. jadeja got out trying to reduce the run rate in the 40th over. so tell me why the most devastating batsmen did not play his devastating game for almost 15 overs while the job hitting boundaries was left with tail-enders? because dhoni is clever while ashwin and jadeja are also clever. they are clever because when Dhoni wastes ball, his fan club would say he would catch with the strike rate if he keeps batting but if they waste the ball, the only thing they hear is grinding of teeth.

First of all, happy new year to you. I would love you to accept my friend request so that we can have more talks about Mr Dhoni. Every body will say what you said if they have seen cricket after World Cup. Dhoni alone is not going to win matches for team India. He needs player like Raina, Yuvraj and to some extent Jadeja(Dhoni may not be fully confident of Jadeja, that's why he send Ashwin ahead of him). In last match when he was playing against Raina and the partnership was going quite well, he came down and smashed two sixes just to break down the shackles so that Raina could feel little breather and they can continue their partnership once again with the help of singles. In the next over Raina got out and I could look the terrible expression on Dhoni. Dhoni was thinking that he could carry on with Raina for quite a few overs. Dhoni can only be devastating if partnership is going well, otherwise he will just take two or three runs per over with tail enders. He has played quite well when he has come up the order. One thing I don't understand why he don't come up the order. But otherwise, criticizing him like you do, is totally unfare. The above discussion is purely for ODIs and not for Test. What say?

Sorry dude, thanks that cricket avg is not calculated according to you. You seems to me a fan of statistics. You love to see people making tons of runs and centuries. You seems to be smitten by Ponting, Sachin, Sangakkara and likes of them. If you have seen cricket for last 7 years, than you would have understand that Dhoni has come out at no 7 and can only make 30's and 40's but those runs are as crucial as 80's or 90's of opener. Steering away his team for victory and remaining not out are the hallmarks of middle orders match winners. Beven had it and from India Dhoni has it. Go on and see how many time Dhoni has been not out in ODi

I dont think so, Dhoni match winning player who told you how many inning he has played as a match and you remember his last century. I think he only do politics in the team and nothing else

If he is not a match winner, than why his average is close to 50 as a player and 55 as a skipper. He is not the one who make centuries, he is the one who makes 50's 60's not out and make sure that he is there till the winning runs are hit. He is like Beven of team India.

Ok Mr. Anil if you think that Dhoni is a Bewan for India than its ok but can you tell me why he dont come to upper order for batting, if he has got a 55 average than its not mean he is the best player for India. He goes most time not out as he comes at no. 5 or 6 so i think he is not a best player or match winner but he is a hard hitter. I think Kohli is damm good than Dhoni and soon you will see that Kohli is a captain of team India. Good luck

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Yes u are absolutely right, Dhoni is a very good finisher in ODI's and to be very honest he plays and has studied cricket very closely. I think it is very difficult to lead a team and then play with the bat also. He has been doing both the things very well but still he has always come under the scanner and i hope he continues to play the same and silence his critics. What say?

No doubt Dhoni is a class act. He is the best match finisher India ever had. The thing i liked the most about Dhoni is that when he came in to the international circuit he was a smasher of a cricket ball trying to hit a six on every ball but as time passed by he grew responsible and managed his innings well specially when the captaincy was given to him. India need players like him specially in T20s to finish the innings well.
