I'm not sure if any of you have heard about the Idle No More Movement. Basically what happened is that the Canadian Government passed bill c-45 which makes changes to the Indian act and takes away protection to over a million waterways in Canada. First of all, the Indian act is a treaty. This means that it was a contract signed by chiefs and the Queen. When the First Nations heard about this bill they tried to talk to the parliment but they were refused entry. 4 women started the movement Idle No More and Chief Teresa Spence started a hunger strike until Stephen Harper (our prime minister) agreed to meet with her. It is now day 15 of her hunger strike. Meanwhile Stephen Harper is tweeting: "mmmm... bacon" If you are a Canadian and want to learn more about this or would like to support this cause please join the facebook group for Canadians in Solidarity with First Nations. There is also a group for international people who stand in solidarity. https://www.facebook.com/groups/528243297194626/

In the past my country too has done things to hurt the Indian Nations here. They seem to have a lot more strength now and do not get overrun by beaurocrats like they used to. Here in Florida, the Seminoles, who never signed a treaty at all, do very well. I hope you can resolve this latest attack...

Thank you very much for your kind words. She is now on day 16 of her hunger strike and I think she may back down for her health.
