A Way To Justify The Purchase? Light Blue Goes With Red!

Unless you have been on another planet for the last year or so you will know that I love the colour red. Bright red that is, nothing too dark. Currently, I have a red throw on the leather settee and I've painted the fireplace surround the same colour. I've also got a free, red carpet sample from Ryalux which forms the basis of how I think in terms of decor. Can't afford the carpet but can afford the odds and sods that would go with it IF we had one! This is why the hallway and stairs has new wallpaper, for example, which is in white, primarily. So, bearing this in mind, what do you think of the Litecraft chandelier in the link below (and please be honest as I value all of your opinions). http://www.litecraft.co.uk/lighting/ceiling-lights/chandeliers/calista-6-light-blue-glass-chandelier Personally, I love it. I love the light blue drops (that can be changed to another colour if I get bored). I love the matt black. I love everything about it, including the price as it's below £60. One snag though. It has 6 bulbs, not 5 so I'm a bit worried it may look a tad large in the hallway. Mind you, John said it's about the same diameter as our living room light fitting so it could go in here if it's too big. What do you think? The light is sold for the same price on the Debenhams website (delivery is extra on the Litecraft site which makes them both the same price as Debenhams has free delivery at present) but I doubt there will be one hanging in the actual Debenhams store. What would you do? Would you take the plunge and order online or see if it's in-store tomorrow so we can have a good look at it. To be honest, I've never noticed any lighting at Debenhams so if I don't order it now it could be out of stock if I dither!

Not really my taste. I prefer something a little more simple, but who cares? If its what you like, GO FOR IT.

I know what you mean about liking simple things. The main reason I go for something more elaborate is due to the high ceilings in the house, otherwise I'd be more like you. Simple lighting tends to look a bit lost.

what are you talking about - blue goes with EVERYTHING! that's why its the color of the sky... No, really, I like it, probably the only thing I would do is put more drops on it... but then, its never enough...

LOL! The colour of the sky IS gorgeous, I have to say and light blue is one of my favourites, along with bright red of course. Yes, if I find there aren't enough drops on it I shall trawl ebay for some more. Oh, what fun it will be to customise it! Tomorrow we shall physically go into Debenhams to see if they have a lighting section. If not, I shall come back and order it from their website. I doubt I shall find another Litecraft light fitting for that price with that discount.

Life is short...enjoy what you can when you can. If you really like it and it will not take too big a bite out of your budget, go for it! I think that light blue would make a nice offset to the red.

Thanks. We've decided to go into the Debenhams store. To be honest, I've never seen or looked for lighting in there before so I've no idea if they stock any..but if they don't I shall come back and order it via their website instead. You only live once!

i like it, i like the shape of the chandelier itself, and black is quite a good colour. my concern would be that once you have committed to blue you then have to adapt whatever plans you have for the hallway to fit in with that. so it depends really on what you want to do with the hallway. i like red, as a colour too, but i decided to sort of accessorise my own flat with purple, partly so it would look less messy, if things matched. but i chose purple because its a warm colour, and i don't like greens or blues in my home, not because they aren't attractive, but to me they are cold colours. but the purple colour range has quite a wide range of colours that fit into it, so i can stretch to pink, or go into browns, and it still looks co-ordinated. i do think its nice but if you could find one like it with transparent glass it might make it easier, as replacing a chandelier is quite hard, its sort of a long term commitment. maybe you will find something in debenhams though. it is nice, it just depends how much you want to commit to blue, as part of the hallway colour scheme.

My MIL bought that very same light from Argos some time ago and I don't want to copy her, obviously lol. Thanks anyway. I've decided on this in the end and got it for £99 with a code. http://www.bhs.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=41&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=34096&storeId=13077&productId=6424179&langId=-1&sort_field=Price%20Ascending&categoryId=765995&parent_categoryId=765991&pageSize=40

oh in that case its a definite no, but the one you got is really lovely, so you can feel very pleased with yourself, as its worth the extra money, and its a fairly long term investment.

there's an all black one in argos (you needn't tell anyone it came from there, i got my curtains there and they are quite good quality) its only £40. that would be more neutral. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4324012.htm or they have it in a transparent clear colour, or purple even http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4324012.htm you needn't tell anyone!

If you love it and it will go with your home's decor - go for it. You don't need anyone opinion of whether or not anyone else likes it. I decorate my house the way I like - who cares about anyone else. I have the same decor for my kitchen for over 20 years. I redid the living room last year. I don't care, that is what I like. My husband doesn't mind and I think my kitchen looks fresh and pretty. My living actually looks more settled in than my kitchen - go figure. Don't bother with other people's opinions. Just value your own tastes and your own judgement and your own values. Go for it!

You're right of course. It's just nice to share my views shall we say on decor, as it's quite unusual at times. Anyway, we shall visit Debenhams tomorrow to see if they have a lighting section. If not, I'll order it online anyway!

MyLot doesn't like me. This will be the sixth time I've tried to post a response: Kinda cool, I'd say. And I suppose it wouldn't hurt to call Debenhams to see if they have it in store before ordering it online.

Well, we're going out shopping at various places tomorrow anyway so it makes sense to pop in-store to see if Debenhams has a lighting section. I suspect it doesn't but there's no harm in looking I suppose. Once I satisfy myself they haven't got it in-store I shall order it via their website instead. And they wonder why we go online?

I don't know about other people,I think it is both good and cheap. However I incline to buy it in the actual store, which can save the trouble that happened to the chandelier.

I've actually changed my mind yet again and bought this from the BHS website. I've bought it for £99 as I applied a code at checkout to get another 10% off. Free delivery to the store as well. Hope you like it! http://www.bhs.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=41&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=34096&storeId=13077&productId=6424179&langId=-1&sort_field=Price%20Ascending&categoryId=765995&parent_categoryId=765991&pageSize=40

Oh, it is pretty. If it goes with the style of your room, go for it! Personally, I'd like it better with a darker (but not brownish or blackish) red rather than bright red, but it would fit bright red, too.

My husband wasn't as keen on it as I was so we both agreed to go down the chrome and glass route. Matt black or plastic was definitely out so I've bought the light below, further discounted for £99 with a voucher code. It will be at the store in a few days time for me to pick up. Hope you like it! http://www.bhs.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=41&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=34096&storeId=13077&productId=6424179&langId=-1&sort_field=Price%20Ascending&categoryId=765995&parent_categoryId=765991&pageSize=40
