Turkey on fire

I was talking to one of my summer staff members right before Christmas and I was talking about making a turkey for Christmas. She said she wished she could cook one but was afraid to try. She said on tv shows you see people's turkeys blow up and catch fire. I told her that has never happened to me. Turkeys are very simple to cook. I don't think it's easy to catch it on fire I think that is just a tv comedy thing. But have you ever had your turkey blow up like that.

I think cooking a turkey is basically pretty simple, I've only made one that was bad and that was because I cooked it on too high of a heat, peeling off the burnt skin was pretty simple and it still tasted good. The only turkey's I've ever seem that really do catch on fire and/or blow up are the ones that are put in deep fryers.

Never heard of that as well. I'm sure this is just a Tv thing.

I am sure this is something that never happens. Everything's possible at Tv and in shows. I am sure nothing will actually catch fire

As far as I know, that's never actually happened. My grandma told me it's really simple to bake a turkey. Buy it, thaw it, take out the nasty stuff, put it in the pan, put tin foil over it, and stick it in an oven. She's always eliminating my fear of cooking. I'm always afraid I'll do it wrong and she's like "It's never as hard as you think or anyone tells you." So, TV depicts turkeys blowing up and catching fire and they depict many other untruthful things. All I can say to your staff member is: "It's never as hard as you think or anyone tells you."
