Charity...False Pretensions Galore!

Nowadays it has become much common among the elite and the highly rich people to wear the garment of charity and compassion for the poorer sections of the society. This notion is essentially one aimed at fulfilling personal goals directed to achieve greater business for their products and services. While a rich businessman would voluntarily agree to donate his vital body organs to the needy after his demise, some others would promise to donate the entire proceedings of their gains to the suffering humanity. While the humanitarian instincts expressed are quite appreciable and noteworthy, the truth behind such announcements have hidden selfish motives namely to reap more profit in business ventures. This in turn is falsehood wearing the garb of charity at large.

Just because someone is wealthy, does not mean that he has selfish motives in order to donate his organs or money to the poor. If that were the case, then many wealthy people will refuse to give to charity in order not to be thought of as wanting recognition for false reasons. So what you are saying is very dangerous and may make many of the poor poorer. And should only the middle class and the poorer class give to charity because their motives would be pure and would that not make their situation more tenuous? You cannot judge the person's motives. Only God can do that .

Unless the person is like the Pharisee and announces that he did this great thing by donating to this cause, there is no reason to suspect that. It may be that the news said that so and so donated to the charity to get the newspaper more news.

It depends much on situations. All charities are not selfish oriented. But there are instances wherein charity is a way to gain personal fame.

Too many people today are selfish and self serving. It is pretty said that what you write about is going on but some feel that the more money they have the better no matter what they have to do.

Many a rich man in the present day state affairs willingly help the others by way of donating to various charities. It is a noble deed indeed.

Every good act has some benefit like every bad act brings some punishment. There are some who are like as you suggested. There are others who have realized how tough the going is, especially when there is no help forthcoming at the right time. So they have started such institutions. Having said that, I think what they should do is make such institutions self sustaining institutions. Recently I came across mouth and foot paintings. They were superb. And quite affordable too!!! Why dont people patronize such things? Most people buy steel vessels to give as favors on demise of a person. If such gift was replaced by mugs from mouth and foot paintings guys, it would help the handicapped people live a respectful life for several years. But such organizations rarely make a sound. They also dont offer IT benefits.

Sounds great and very much practical.Such handicapped talented minds are to be helped out without leaps and bounds.Let nobler souls turn to charitable deeds in abundance.Let us thus make our place a good one to live on in peace and harmony.

I agree with you. I think its all to show off how much money they have and how much they are helping the world. Just to get their name out there... If they really cared they would be in the street, looking for people to help out of the kindness of their hearts. There are SO many people that are homeless on all of our streets, why not go out and help them? Give them some money or some food. That would be more endearing than what they do...

Letting out money, food or clothing to the genuinely needy is really an act of grace.Only people of nobility could offer help and assistance to the poorer lot by way of charitable donations.

It has been fashionable since the eighties for celebs to attach themselves to a charity - usually a charity that was fashionable We have some in the UK - Children In Need, Comic Relief and Sport Relief - These charities work very simply - Millionaire celebrities come on TV and tell us to give them money - Idiots tend to donate. Bono, the lead singer of U2 is another one - He is a multi Millionaire that has protected the earnings of U2 in a tax haven - Then he tells us we are not doing enough for help third world debt or starving children... ....If that PR|CK wants to help starving children he should put his hand in his pocket. I do not give to mainstream charity because the heads of these organisations tend to be on inflated salaries. I give to local charities and ones that are not aligned with celebrities. There is one celebrity that does deserve respect for his charity work, because he does not bang on about it and it is a charity he set up himself. Craig Bellamy once of Liverpool does not come across as a likable bloke, but for over 10 years he has helped build and fund a school and clinic in Africa - That is SELFLESS

Giving away a part of your savings and wealth to charities is a great act of kindness. However one should be on the look out for false propagandists who would divert the funds gained to appease their own interests. Hence only genuine charitable donations are to be entertained.

I would say that while this may be true, the world is also full of those that give just to give. Even, me, who has small earthly goods to give am moved to give what I can to others. It makes me feel good, like I have a small bit of control over life. True or not, I get no other benefit. I know many who give their whole lives to others, not for reward but rather because that is the way they choose to live their lives. Why not encourage this positive energy rather then the negative one of gift only for worldly rewards?

Give what you can to the genuinely needy lot...it is bliss in its true mode. However giving away money and things should not be to raise personal acclaim and pride.

I don't know how true this is but my teacher said that rich people like businessmen and clebrities are choosing to donate in charity rather than to pay tax. Like singers for example, we would often hear that part of their income would go to charity donations, this is to attract more people to buy tickets but the real reason is that it avoids them from paying a large sum of money for tax plus it's gives them a good reputation of being a good person. When a company is promoting a contest for their costumers, it's also about their tax. It crops a large amount of their tax if they are having contest. One of the highest tax a company would pay is about environment or garbage disposal, this is why one of the contest's rule is to let us collect bottle caps, wrappers or papers of their products.

Such cases are aplenty in modern settings. Giving away money and wealth on charities thereby saving a lot on income and other taxes. It is in no way in the true intention of helping the poor lot.
