I love to open an online shop to retail silver jewelry. However, I'm working for a jewelry manufacturing company. I think that I shouldn't do what are identical to my company. My boss can suspect me getting benefits from company. Right?

If you get your products through buying it, you will never wrong. But it is a big mistake if you get the products by stealing it from your company. Just keep running your online shop, since you have strong evidence that you are not stealing from your company. Good luck!

You won't be suspected if you have proof of your purchases from the other companies you purchase from. I'm not sure if your Boss would allow you to purchase those jewelries from his company or not but it would be easier for you if he would. Of course it would be wise to keep your online business a secret from your Boss.

Dear All, I'll sell what I purchase from other company, of course. I never think that I'll steal products from my company. I only think that my boss won't accept if he knows I sell the same product with him. Because we'll have the same customers. He'll think that I only care to sell my products and forgot to looking for customer for company.

Legal issues will be brought up if: 1)you are stealing/misappropriating the company you work for (I'm sure you don't but adding this makes my list long lol :P ) 2)you are at a managerial/executive position or in the sales division = Since you should be primarily be focused at selling the company's products 3)it is on your employment contract that you shall not in any way cause prejudice the well-being(through sales) of your company I'm not sure if there are any other points that I missed but overall, if it will not substantially affect the company you work for, then there's no reason to worry.

That would be better :) It's more acceptable to have products that will not bias the company you work for. In regards to leaving your company, are you resolved? Having a business is risky and your work is a steady source of income. I think you should plan this further. For some it's hard to look for work, don't be rash in leaving until you are stable. Have confidence & take heart, I believe in your success. I hope you'll have a promising venture soon ^_^

I won't worry if I like to sell products which are not the same with products of my company. I think that I should chose other products first. I'll sell jewelry after I have left this company.

Most of the employers do not like their employees doing sidelines selling the same products. They may even suspect that the similar products that their employees sell online are actually goods stolen from their shop. You may have the receipts to show but they may never ask but just assume that probability. Don't lose your main income job because of a side income adventure.

That's right. So, I must think carefully before I have the final decision. Thank you.

There might be some problem if you will do it. Try opening another kind of business. Something that will not create suspicions. Have a nice day!

Yes, this could cause some issues. They can even blame you with plagiarism and also, yes, getting benefits, also... they can fire you, and it can bring legal issues, too...

You could sell a different product while working for your company. After you leave, I think it's okay for you to sell jewelry since you are no longer obligated to work in their favor. Though be sure to think this through since employment is a steadier source of income compare to starting a business.

It's serious following your respond! Because I think the same, too. So, I still not open the shop. Do you think that I should sell other products, when I leave this company, I could sell jewelry, right?
